Reduction to drink driving limit,do you support it?

Proposals mean the limit would be reduced meaning a pint or even less would take you over, apparently this would save 50+ lives every year

I fully support this and would be happy to see it at zero

Opinions?

Sensitive subject so please be respectful

agree, the slogan 'Dont drink and drive' should be literal as one pint of lager affects everybody differently

#3

I enjoy a beer on a Friday night, coke if driving, but i would be happy to see it at zero as well

to be honest though, if they cant stop people using mobile phones whilst driving, i dont think they will have much luck with this !

I agree, it should be zero

Like everything pretty much its hard to go either way, I rarely drink and have never drove as dont have a license but I think the change will penalise the tens of thousands if not far more who drink sensibly.

Like any limits it will just create a lot of resentment and get to the point where people have no rights at all and they have to conform to be non smokers, non drinkers etc in order to be within the law for anything.

fully agree with this

I sometimes drive to the pub and have one over 3/4 hours which i can enjoy, but im sure i could go without this pint, if it means i order a coke instead of a pint and it saves a life and saves me 50P:whistling:, im certain i could go without, support this idea.
At same time though, i feel 10 times, maybe 100 times more people will use their phone while driving over drink driving and have seen how badly people drive when distracted by a phone, i think they should put more effort into this first

I'm kinda zero tolerance (despite being a bit of a hypocrite)...

Limit should be zero, or as close to zero as poss to take into account really tiny amounts found in other things
Should be banned from driving for life.
#19
I don't think it should be zero as having a choclolate with alcohol in it could get you banned! But it could still be lowered it would bother me.

your reaction time after 1 pint can be upto 2 seconds slower and concidering you always go faster when you drink it could be a dead baby on your consience IS IT REALY WORTH IT?

Odd choice of words - it wouldnt matter at all to me if it was a baby over a child over an adult ... its all just as man. I dont buy into this emotional blackmail sorry. Its not reuqired - it stands up on its own merits.

Same when I have a car I will have 'alf a shandy, or if we are just out on one of our long drives for the day then I might have a second one many hours later, usually when stop to have some food.
But I'd be happy with it at negligible, not zero as others have pointed out there are other things alcohol is in and used in. Thus a negligible value, something like the equivalent to 50-100ml of beer for example.

reduced a bit maybe, dont agree with it being zero though, as stated it affects people differently....ill drive after 2 pints(lager tops!!) but no more because i know thats my limit. Its nice to pop into the pub on the way home from work for a pint

no one should have 3 pints and drive home. Thats illegal no matter how you look at it. Lucky you haven't been caught.

It should be Zero.
TBH even if it saves 1 life in 5 years it's worth it, just think how many lives are wrecked/affected by losing a family member.
#30
Theres alcohol in mouth wash and so on, so zero would be well hard line and smelly breath
#31
A high percentage of prosecuted drink drivers are actually driving the day after when breathalised. That is with the limits set as they are. If the law was amended, everyone would have to be so careful and possibly not drive for 12-24 hours after drinking.
#32
personally i think it should be zero but is 2 pints of stella over the limit?
just wondering.
p.s u dont swallow mouthwash so that shouldnt come in to it correct me if i am wrong
#33
i think the limit should be zero to, i have always had this debate with my mates, i very rarely drink whereas my mates do, so if we both went out for a night and i had the legal requirement just like my mates did lets say, i can guarantee that i would be more wasted than them due to not being used to drinking although i would say i have drank the legal limit....... thus proving that alcohol can affect people in different ways so by saying zero if driving saves any confusion or miss representation.

I disagree.

It's fine as it is.

If anything I think it should be raised due to the economic benefits that would occur.

there still might be trace limits :? also what about a champagne truffle or two . I don't mind the limit being lowered but at zero i think too many people would be caught out for something completly innocent.

And the award for most mornic statement made on HUKD in 2010 can already be awarded.

Should be no alcohol or a negligible amount but police need to tackle drug driving more too. The amount of students I teach who think it is OK to drive having had 'just a couple of spliffs' is unbelievable. Also, punishments for being excessively over should be much harsher.

I think the luck's more that of everyone else on or around the road. Hopefully, when he does screw it up, there's a nice sturdy brick wall to block his path and keep him from causing anyone too much bother.

I think zero would be ridiculous, very unrealistic and hard to police. If I have a couple of drinks the night before (and I mean a couple, not 10), a residual amount of alcohol will still be in my bloodstream. A very small amount, but an amount perceptable to a blood alcohol device. Does this warrant a ban (or a ban for life as some have called for...)? Of course it shouldn't.
