Refund for removal of "Other OS" feature from PS3 - £71.49 - Amazon UK

Ok, first post here but I felt so strongly about this topic that I thought I would inform you all.

Apparently Amazon are refunding people who originally bought a PS3 Fat for the removal of the "Other OS" feature. They are having to do this under EU law which states

"comply with the description given by the seller and posses the same qualities and characteristics as other similar goods AND be fit for the purpose which the consumer requires them and which was made known to the seller at the time of purchase."

which Sony are now violating.

So, if you bought an original PS3 from Amazon you may be able to get some money back regardless of whether or not you use the "Other OS" feature.

1. This is not a deal
2. Sony have done nothing wrong, they could change it further if they wanted to.
3. Buy a computer for Linux.

also, can i get a refund from argos?

Of course it is now looking highly likely that the firmware has been hacked to allow users to keep Linux, with the added bonus that it may now be possible to run it on the Slim!

Sigh, Sony have taken away a feature that some people would have based their purchasing decision on. It's like buying a car and having the manufacturers taking away your AirCon just because they wanted to.

1) Correct.
2) Yes they have, they have fundamentally changed one of the functions of the machine. So to keep my linux on it I have to forfeit online gaming.
3) Why should I pay out for another machine when the one I own Sony have decided to take out of commission.

So they've added functionality then, not taken it away. :?

You're wrong, they Sold item A with the promise of it having function B, now they've taken function B away once you've bought it so...

Under the European law Directive 1999/44/C which states that the goods must:

Comply with the description given by the seller and posses the same qualities and characteristics as other similar goods AND be fit for the purpose which the consumer requires them and which was made known to the seller at the time of purchase.

As a major feature has now been removed without prior warning (Other OS) the console has not fit the original description at the time of sale and therefore is not fit for purpose.

I don't have an Xbox. I only have a PS3 so I don't know what you are talking about there.
What did they do and why did they do it?
