A safety net for those scared of dying and a way for people to be controlled.

Religion shoud be banned.

You're opening a can of worms to cause a few arguments

If it helps you make sense of your life then fairplay, crack on with it. Personally i think this is it and don't follow any of that relgious gubbins
#4
its basically so you can sin and do bad things then go confess and feel good about it. My advice is don't stab them in the first place.

and swearing is frowned upon...

i dont disagree i look it as the flock is dying due to old age and need new recruits so the younger generation gets pulled in !

Probably right there.

It's so utterly futile and pointless, I can't believe in a supposedly modern society people still believe in such utter nonsense.

The bible-a good story taken too far..

if there were a god ugly people wouldnt exist :D

I don't think it's always about that.. Obviously you have those that have hatred towards other faiths and religion causes friction all over the world, but I think for many people religion is more simple.

I believe sometimes religion serves as a place to go when you are in need. My mum turned to religion when her babies died, and again when my dad left her. She didn't feel so alone.

She hasn't given it up, but no longer goes so faithfully every sunday - but it has helped her.

because the catholic schools are so bloody good well the 1 my kids go to are

I forgot to mention this point too!

ALso the CofE schools are really good in our area (in fact in all the area's I have lived) you have to attend church and be baptised if you stand a chance of getting in.

Also some secondary schools required that you had to be confirmed to gain entry! i don't know if is the same anymore though.

As a non believer, do you not think it's wrong forcing the kids into following religion?

If I was a parent I'd prevent my child from any religious activity. Children are just far too impressionable.

Santa is JUST as vaild as Jesus or Allah or the Tooth Fairy. And just as real....

Me, born again atheist.

During my forties I began to wonder why I called myself a Christian. I felt that if I wasn't religious then at least I could use that label. The rest of my family is very religious.

Once I began looking into this, I realised that I did not have to call myself a Christian. I am still a person with high moral standards.

Just wish I had the opportunity to question it all many years earlier...brought up Catholic, not a hope of escaping it until you can rebel.

Coming OUT was a very interesting time. The backlash has now died down and thankfully there many members of my family who want no further contact with me.

No problems with anybody else's faith / beliefs, unless you try to influence me with it.

To the OP, it is a difficult situation for you. My kids went to faith schools because anything else locally was tripe. I played a game too for many years because I went to church and believed I was a Christian.

People cannot understand how I could go as far as total belief that there is nothing. Try it, totally liberating.

Isn't it a case that you could only see aliens if you encountered them, similarly with God?
