Does anyone have any tips or remedies for a sinus infection?
So far antibiotics and sudafed tablets and spray haven't helped...

i probably wouldnt be mixing antibiotics with sudafed unless specified by a doctor.
A nasal douche is an option, I use one, just clears the airwaves and keeps everything nice and clean, which will encourage your sinuses to drain.

I've had sinusitis once, was awful. Couldn't stand without feeling dizzy and being sick, and when i looked outside in the daytime, i would actually get stupidly bad headaches! I was just bed ridden for a few days and it went... I guess rest is the best remedy of them all.

Dr said I can take antibiotics and sudafed spray as it'll help, but they havn't made much difference yet so if anyone has any amazing remedy their long lost great grandmother or mysterious person on the bus told them, I'm all ears.
I've had it on and off since January but the past 2 weeks it's completely taken hold - very painful forehead and cheekbones, swollen face, bleeding nose, blocked nose and ears, sore and gungey throat, tinnitus, temperature, puking, dizzy, achey, the whole lot. I know exactly what you're saying DarrylJohn about the sunlight thing - just makes it worse!
I'll see if I can do that nasal douching thing - lol, not sure how though.
Thanks for the replies.

have you tried steam hun, head over a bowl of hot steamy water with a towel over your head, you could also put in a few drops of menthol that might help a little

That just reminded me I've got some olbas oil in the cupboard, I'll give that a go in a bowl of steamy water and towel on my head. Thanks.

Firstly I would go straight back to the doctor for better antibiotics or stronger course. Your symptoms sound bad if your face is swollen.

Drink lot of fluids as it helps you body flush out the infection. You want your nose to run as much as possible.
for relief stand in a hot shower and breath in with the water running over you nose and mouth.

Finally Old remedy.

My mum always told me to make car engine noises. Yep like mmmmm mmmmmm mmmmm as if engine accelerating and going through the gears. You do this by pressing you tongue to the roof of the back of you mouth and getting the vibrations going at the back of you nose.
The idea is to get the bones to vibrate. This shakes up the mucus that has the infection in it and helps get it down your nose and out. It also moves the flaps of skin that are swollen and causing pressure by blocking you sinuses.
I guess calling them car noises was the easy way of explaining the noise to a child, but I think of a car everytime I do it. :whistling:

thats nasal douching  It really does help, and as its non medicinal you can do it several times a day for as long as you want really.

Thanks, I have tried the nasal douching which was more funny than anything else - after about 20 minutes of splashing around I finally ended up using a (non-needled!) syringe normally used for decorating cakes lol, it was horrible and stung but worked for a while. I also tried the steaming olbas which was lovely and my ear did a massive pop but the effects lasted about 10 minutes so I had a nice long shower this evening with olbas in the shower tray which was lovely.
I think it's another trip to the doc as it's not going away, but I'm allergic to a lot of the specific sinus antibiotics so I'm still going to try all these home remedies and old wives tales to help myself. The tractor noise mmmmmm mmmmmm thing is a good one for clearing the throat even if I sound like a crazy person!
Thanks everyone, you have been repped for your kindness and advice.
