So have I... along with countless 3.5 discs of software kept having a soft spot when I spotted any sitting lonely in a boot-sale
I've even got one standing to my right as I'm typing this... it's in a tall 6 bay tower, all bays full too, 3 HDs... ide & scsi interfaces... use it for burning Cd's every now & then...
It's running the OS3.9... a far cry from the earlier operating systems...
Cant bring myself to put it away... now your've brought back some memories, the cellotape trick, it did do some miles too...
I've still got one of them A500 cd drives kicking about in the loft, was wonders in its time, single speed, gave great access to huge amounts of date though, after all, all the programs were sensibly sized, none of this gig or 2 for a program... Even the Aminet collections...
Now, when I discovered that the A1200 trapdoor could take fast processors like the 040,060 & even PPC's & not just the memory... And to find out the A1200 had an ide port inside too that could take any ide device... a ribbon cable soon popped out the side into an awaiting tower, just for testing, of course... I went loopy...
as for the 3.5 disc's... they just evolved into CD's carrying many hundreds of floppies..."},{"@type":"Comment","@id":"https://www.hotukdeals.com/comments/permalink/15658","author":{"@type":"Person","name":"johnnypanic"},"datePublished":"2005-01-22T20:48:24.000Z","text":"Really miss the old Amiga

I was happy playing with the ' real' Amiga along with its many add-ons... Then I was suddenly disheartened about the Amiga because, after running the Amithlon CD, I was suddenly faced with not just an Amiga running OS3.9, but using the PC graphics hardware without a chip mem limit amongst other things, can you imagine an Amiga running the 60/060, well now I was looking at a 3.0ghz Amiga running at full speed... (or as fast as your pc is)
Wow... Turbo or what... Nothing like I had ever seen before...
playing my real Amiga could have compared to climbing what you thought was an unclimbed mountain, only to find a long established cafe at the top...
The Amithlon Cd came with 2 systems on it, Amithlon & AmigaXL
AmigaXL was a bootable system straight off the cd for any PC... Amithlon on the other hand was an installable Amiga system using a QNX kernal, both compatible with all the latest software that was created...
both would utilise any Amiga Hard-drives and run the software without probs too...
So, there I was, at one hand a 'real' fast'ish Amiga in a Tower... on the other hand, a CD with blinding results far superior than any amiga that had ever existed... :?"},{"@type":"Comment","@id":"https://www.hotukdeals.com/comments/permalink/15795","author":{"@type":"Person","name":"deleted3015"},"datePublished":"2005-01-24T19:45:30.000Z","text":"So that CD bootable Amiga OS is PC only? So that CD bootable Amiga OS is PC only? I'd like to try it on my Mac
Now, I guess you are running a PPC processor... if so, Amiga did do a Portable PPC version of the OS for use on their own PPC powered Amiga's... Im sure that it is the current Amiga OS4.0... being that the PPC Amiga has the same processor as the mac they could also run Mac software at full speed...
So I am sure that the opposite must also be true too...
I've just applied for the 2 hague & partner forums relating to the Amiga Amithlon & AmigaXL software to find out a little more info...
I shall also have a look around to see what I can find out about the Amiga OS4.0... One point is, the Amithlon version uses a QNX kernal... is there possibly a version of QNX that runs on the MAC...? thats one possibility...

I think it was the new AmigaOS needs a rom on chip to boot, which obviously the Mac doesn't have. I'm sure I read that in one of the articles, it's why you have to buy the Amiga special motherboards to run the OS."},{"@type":"Comment","@id":"https://www.hotukdeals.com/comments/permalink/16073","author":{"@type":"Person","name":"deleted3445"},"datePublished":"2005-01-28T00:11:25.000Z","text":"

I do not recall anything refering to any rom to run the os4 ppc version, which I think is the one you need... besides that, any native onboard rom would be in 68xxx code, not ppc code, rendering any dedicated rom totally pointless... The newer Amiga One is not 68xxx based neither...
I think you may be recalling a requirement that you were supposed to have if you wanted to upgrade the native Workbench v3.0 beyond v3.1 on an A1200... The Workbench v3.5 & v3.9 installations required you to update the 'the kickstart rom chip' from v3.0 to 3.1 for you to run the later workbench's... which has actually proved to be a crafty sales ploy... It was only that the 3.1 rom had a later datatype and a few other odds... an unofficial patch was actually released that would allow it to work fine... it purely updated the rom mirror image in memory & write protected it... making it, for all intense & purposes, a Kickstart v3.1...
I hope nobody got confused as the Kickstart versions & the Workbench versions are 2 different things, only the version numbers were in common at one stage... :?
as for the workbench v3.5 that comes with Amithlon, It works fine on my pc.... i keep meaning to setup a spare pc as an Amiga, when I get a little spare time...
