Remotely switching off computer?

Hey,

I want to download programs from BBC iPlayer and the like, stream them via my Xbox 360 and watch them. This would mean my computer is on, my Xbox 360 is on and the TV is on.

I can turn the Xbox 360 and the TV off by remote. How do I turn the computer off? (Aside from the obvious power button). Is there a way to do this remotely?

If you have a laptop, use www.logmein.com to turn it off

If your pc has bluetooth, you can use your mobile phone if you're close enough. I got something for my n95 to control the mouse! Dealextreme cheap bluetiith dongle is fine

You say you can turn off the xbox360 and tv by remote so I assumed you meant you needed a solution for the PC in a similar vain... (eg you watch a movie in bed and what to turn it all off without getting up!)

if so have a look at something like http://www.redrat.co.uk

You can actually buy remotes for PCs but I guess it's only useful if its in the same room as you.

PC has bluetooth, and I have an N95. Which program is it that you can work it so it acts as a mouse. That would be BRILLIANT!

You know the Xbox will play the BBC iplayer media files if you burn them to disk or copy them onto a memory stick.

Easiest way is to install a Shutdown Timer. The program works in the background, and shuts the computer down at a time you've determined.

Nokia Wireless Presenter http://mosh.nokia.com/content/379183464B5803F5E040050AEE044DC0

It can be a bit fiddly setting it up first time, you just have to get the right com port set up, trial and error works, or depending on the pc software you're using (IVT or in the buit microsoft one) it'll tell you. Your monitor will obviously have to be switched on for you to see the pointer! I don't have a solution for that i'm afraid! The powerpoint presentation features are awesome as well - your n95 will display notes off the slide, and you can use your phone for changing slides!

Let me know how you get on.

PS: I'd recomend a program to force shut down to your pc after selecting shutdown cos some programs like the (IVT) bluetooth hang after shutdown!
