Renault Megane - Do you know where the seat sensor goes??

BorisTheSpider Avatar

Our newly obtained 2005 Megane has the airbag warning light on, which apparently is very common.

Most forums suggest loose cabling under the seats, but none actually mention this part (pictures to be added below) which it seems is the seat runner position sensor. As you can see, ours is just hanging loose.

Does anyone on here know where (or how) to put it back into place??? I cant see where it would fit on the runner.

Thanks!

Had the same problem on a Clio years ago. Can't remember much about it, but I think soldering was involved. Could be talking out my **** though. I just lived with the light being on and made sure I didn't hit anything.

Check under the front passenger seat. If it's what I think it is, that plugs in under there. It's so the car knows not to deploy the passenger side airbag if there's no one sitting in it

Hi Dunfyboy.

Thanks for the input, but this sensor is only used on the drivers side - it apparently tells the car how far back the seat is, so that it knows how much air use when inflating the steering wheel airbag.....or at least thats how I understood it!

Yeah i've searched that site quite intensively - its clear that Renaults suffer from poor cabling, as lots of ppl have experienced issues with the underseat loom setting off the airbag light.

However, not a single thread I read mentions this sensor!!!!

I should probably just register a new account over there, but as i'll (hopefully) never need to use the site again, thought i'd see if anoyone over here knew first!

Lol - I would do the same if just using it for short journeys, but wouldn't feel too relaxed driving on the motorway with the dash permanently reminding me that I have no protection!

Boris,

register and post a question, you;ll get one of the resident Renault mechanics mail you back. Top guys on there and quick too. Once you register bet you will use it more than once.

Hiya - thats the same manual i found which told me it was the seat runner sensor!

Sadly, it didnt help too much as its not clear, and theres nothing on the actual seat in that place (as far as we could see) for it to go!

You could just have a look, Check all/any cables that lead to the seat/runner or anything that look's like a sensor.

I'm not on here being lazy - we have had a good look - there really isnt anything there that we saw for attaching this to.

I dont think it actually plugs into anything, but its shape suggests it should possibly sit/clip snuggly somewhere, but I may be wrong.

On that pdf it looks like it connects roughly in the centre, Perhaps onto the plastic trim? Maybe very hard to see without removing the seat, Seems a little extreme but in such an awkward spot it would be difficult for you to see without removing the seat.

Have you got a mirror? You could use that to take a better look, Then fiddle around with it to figure which way around it fits.

airbag light is on on my Micra - googled & found a cure - using ignition key - but now it's getting boring so am looking for some black tape to stick over the light.

Have had another try this morning, but still no joy.
