Renting a villa in Spain, help please? Nice area?

Hi all.

I am looking around to book a villa for 3 weeks, for 8 people, for July/August 2009.

Can anyone recommend somewhere nice on South coast of Spain?

Can anyone recommend a good company to use?

Would it be beneficial for me, price wise, to book it now?

Personally, avoid Villas in the Urbanizations, they are out of town and attract high amounts of crime due to them being practically empty for most of the year. I would go for an in town apartment with Spanish people, closer to the beach, pubs clubs and restaurants. Save money on taxis and hiring a car and the apartment would be safer, speak Spanish where ever you go (or try to) to get better service.

In my experience you would be better off waiting & booking nearer the time as usually there are some really good late bargains to be had .... & always plenty for Southern Spain :)

Thanks for the advice, will bear it in mind

Forgot to mention, we will be driving there.

The only reputable company I know of in James Villas but they seem to only offer villas along with the filghts and only let you book up to 14 days.

Always book the villa within a week of going as you'll find they get reduced as much as 80%. if you know what area you are going then book the flights early if the price is right.

Should be looking at Alicante or Malaga airport and pay no more than £100 for a return ticket including taxes.

As an example, Jamesvillas have a villa with private pool in Pollensa - Mallorca which works out at £155 each for a party of 8 INCLUDING FLIGHTS!

or £232 to crete

No idea who told you that. You can book a villa up to 1 day before the start date and you do not need to buy anything but the villa.

On the website it only gives you the option to book with flights.

The 14 days, I mean that it will only let me book a villa for 7 or 14 days, it won't let me book 21 days

I have booked just the villa on a few occasions so you must be doing something wrong. It will show you the price including flights but on the booking screen you can remove the flights leaving just the villa.

an example I just got a quote for below:-

Thanks for this and appreciate your effort, but I have stated that we are driving there

I am worried about leaving the booking till last minute, incase we cant find anything or the dates don't coincide with the ferry booking, etc.

Have you done the villa thing before? I appreciate your input.

If you want 21 days then just book the villa for 14 days and then a further 7 days or give them a call. They do negotiate prices down if you haggle. My sister is in Nerja with 5 people and their villa was reduced from £860 to £600 online but she rang them up and got it for £500 if they booked there and then.

We go on hol about 3 - 4 times a year and ALWAYS book a last minute villa (could never go back to staying in an apartment or hotel now). try and plan villa start day for a saturday as this is when most rentals start on the C.del.Sol.

I prefer Alicante myself (Calpe / valencia / Moraira area - less driving too). Too many Brits down south in the Del Sol area ;-)

I have used these sites as well and all was fine:-

http://www.holidaylets.net/

http://www.ownersdirect.co.uk

We are off in 2 weeks time and got this villa for £560.

On the above agency sites, make sure the renter has been on the site for a while and has good reviews to avoid any scams.

You could even do a two / three centre holiday which makes things more interesting (E.g Barcelona / Valencia / Malaga).

Hmmm. I am liking it

Prices are looking rather high at the moment so will have to discuss with extended family

if you do stop at several places, then stay the shortest distance from home last so it breaks the return journey down a bit.

This certainly looks a good thread to me - picked up some nice websites to take a look at

Have used Team Espana many times.
http://www.teamespana.com/

Top class service, nothing too much trouble. Good locations, well situated. Stayed most often around Nerja, 1 hr from Malaga.

Might as well buy a villa as the housing market has crashed. Built too many houses.. not enough buyers interested.. plenty of people wanting to leave to go live in another country.

I kid you not, that's exactly what it's like in the (rural) area I lived in some years back; I still have the villa and visit it often enough during the year.

Thats a bit of a generalisation isnt it. What country has had the crash as I'm considering moving abroad (preferably in Europe but not in the EU)?

I can't speak for all of Spain but it has been in the news recently and the situation isn't great out there where I'm at. Estate agents are finding it hard, some even closed shop (that's an indication!).

Wouldnt touch spain at all due to the land reclaiming problems that are starting to hit a lot of people.
