my lad shares a flat and he pays £65 pw all in , thats all the bills etc

on average;

council tax £100+ a month
gas & leccy £80 month
water £25 month

then there's phone bills, mobile, internet, food and any extras to pay out each week
on top of the rent

hope this helps a bit

Depends on where you live, how big the flat is etc. It's not going to be the same for everyone.

It would be a one bedroom flat in bristol or gloucester.

Size of flat, what equipment, location, middle flat or not, need alot more information, but personally excluding rent would put aside £200/month each minimum just in case.

I help manage my families and own properties and rent out rooms in my own house and usage and location variables do matter.

Use this to get a rough idea of your council tax.

in our house (4 of us) our bills breakdown as follows

council tax - £115
Gas and Electric - £180
Water - £30 per month
Phone and Internet - £30 per month
TV License and Digital TV - £35 per month

for us its £100 each per month plus £10 each into the kitty for bread, milk, loo roll ect.

for you maybe £250 - £350 a month so £125-175 each

In my house bills are included in the rent, but I keep an eye on gas usage, I provide Internet as a courtesy and everyone has Sky FTV box so no subs there.

Only bill is £5/month/person for consumables/cleaning materials we share.

Question is vague. Its like me asking what my bus fare will be tomorrow without giving start and end location :)

about £200-250 per month then plus food & rent.

25% council tax discount if you are on your own or 100% reduction if in education I think...............

If you really need to ask a question like this on here then perhaps you should stay with mum for a little while?

Exactly, thanks!

Girlfriend is on about it but wanted to actually see if we could afford it first without getting too serious about it.

Without asking how are you meant to know? Guess how much everything is?

At least by asking on here you can get a rough guess on what to pay.

Sorry to hear that, my suggestion is speak to as many people as possible.

Ensure the rent is steady and not likely to go up.

ANY promises to improve the property before moving must be in writing with a deadline on it.

Ask to see previous copies of bills so you have a heads up on how much it will be.

Make sure everyone has a bill in their name so it's not just one person overburdened.

And do not get into debt if possible, save, save, save, always assume you never have enough to pay the bills, living hand to mouth is nuts.

My Bills are as following for a 2 Bedroom Flat (all be it, in Scotland)

Council Tax - £140 a month (includes water)
Electricity - £20 a month
Gas - £20 a month
TV License - £11.88 a month (£142.50 a year)
Telephone - £11-£12 a month
Internet - £7.50 a month

Thats your basic bills, well, you dont have to include the telephone and internet.

Thats £211 a month / 2 people = £106 each a month.

As has been said, would need a lot more info.

I live on my own in a 2 bed ground floor flat.
Council tax £1500+ but get single person discount so i only pay about £120 a month.
No gas but electricity is about £15-£20 a week
Water rates are roughly £35 - £40 a month
Tv license about £13 a month

Thanks Jackt010, im 21 in may and gf is 23 in july so not exactly young! We wont get any benefits unless i get her up the duff, and i dont want to do that!!!

My dad has given my what he pays a month etc but that is for a 3 bed bungalow in a good area. Not a one bedroom flat!

Schizoboy, its the living hand to mouth that i would rather not to. Rather carry on living at home for another year, get some savings together and then go for it. Thanks for that advice :)

Thanks hippyharry and magough. Little things like tv license you dont think about!
