repair screen cable OR transfer internals of an acer extensa

OK, my daughter has had friends staying and one of them has fallen onto her laptop and burst the hinge part, due to this the cable coming from the screen has been sliced, therefore her screen is not working at all, I've looked and i can find replacement screens for around the £80 - £100 mark but i wondered if you can just replace the wires or if anyone knows where to get a shell with a screen (15") that i can just put her internals of her lap top into, her disk had been upgraded from 80gb to 160gb and she has all her music and that stored on it,

I have an old computer up the loft (xp) and wondered if i could put her hard drive into it as a temp???????

thanks for any help xx fizzie xx

Should be able to replace the ribbon cable but would advise pc repair shop. If your laptop has video out, you can connect a normal monitor to it instead (won't be portable anymore though:p)

Laptops are nasty proprietary unmodular things unlike desktops and you won't be able to transfer the internals. You can transfer the hard drive or connect it to another computer. Your old computer will connect to it but depending on how old it is may need an adapter (and if it's only got one disk slot then you'll need something like a Linux Live CD to transfer the data off it as it won't boot the laptop's version of windows).

I've opened the screen up and it is the very thin white wire coming from the top of the screen all the way around, i'll see if i can get it fixed,
I'll try the hard disc transfer first though x many thanks and rep added
