Replacement laptop screen?

Ok so the OH has just put the laptop down & the inside of the screen has just cracked & bled about the size of a 50p & the bottom half of the screen is flickering.
The outer screen isn't cracked at all.
No idea how it happened as he didn't slam it down.
I'm guessing this isn't covered by warranty? (laptop is 9mths old)
How much are we looking at to get it fixed, does anybody know? It's a compaq presario cq61 312sa
Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

I've replaced laptop screens in the past, The screens cost me between £80-£100 but I fixed them myself.

I suspect with labour you'll be looking between £100 - £200

I've found one on Ebay just now for £65.99...so the question of labour now I guess
Are they easy to replace? Thanks

Yes I've just had a look too, item number - 260579430601

Why not have a go yourself, Pretty easy to change and usually some instructions around on net if you google a bit.

I wouldn't expect labour to be much, £30 - £40 I'd guess, But it's really only a 10 minute job and you might be surprised how easy it is..

Hhhmm a bit sceptical about doing it myself, I've just googled and it does sound/look simple enough but how far wrong can you go? & I'm guessing replacing the screen voids the warranty completely? :(
Thanks for your help so far

I would guess it would void your warranty, Perhaps you should contact them first and see if the screen's covered by the warranty, If not then you can pay them probably £200 to do it I'd guess, But it really is simple, Just be extra careful and make sure you prize the plastic away gently and don't lose the screws...!!! I recommend some masking tape, When removing them put them on the masking tape in order..!!!.

If you do it properly they'd never know...!!!

Thank you, I really appreciate your help. I could kill him right now :( We've a little backstreet laptop shop up the road I'll pop to tomorrow first just to see what he'd charge but if it's too much I'll attempt it!

Also there are only 2 screw covers along the very bottom of the screen cover/bezel each side of the hinge. I've managed to get them off but there's no way I can fit a screw driver in there. Do I need to take the hinge off?

I bought a new screen from a company on the bay for this Advent a couple of years ago. It was £99 and sent from a firm in Ireland .Ordered on a Thursday dinner time and it was here next day on the Friday at 11 o/clock .Excellent service .

Thanks, I went ahead and bought the one on Ebay. Spoke to a live chat assistant on the compaq website who told me that I need the led backlit screen.

I googled it in the end and for this model you need to take the hinge off as the screen is joined, how typical. :(
