If you can get the same screen, with the same model number, just fit it in and it will work fine.
Good luck!

what happens if its a differnt make but the same type ie WGXA

How much is a new screen. May be cheaper to buy a new lappy.

If you try a screen from a different laptop, chances are the connectors will be different. You need the correct screen for your laptop.

Lots of screens will work in different laptops but one WGXA screen may differ from another.

I've replaced a few screens myself in the last year or so, What I did to find the correct screen was

1. Remove old screen
2. Locate model number or product number.

Google the number and chances are you'll find the correct screen, Shop around, In the end I got them off ebay as they were cheapest.

You could of coarse just search for example "HP Compaq Hxx screen" and you'd get some results but chances are they'll be more expensive.

Hope that might help.

so as long as the connectors are the same any make will do and it same size and a WGXA.
does every screen make have a differnt driver or is there a standard driver for lcd displays?

Try eBay for a replacement, otherwise it will be too expensive and you might as well buy a new laptop as suggested. I had to do this last year. Paid £30.00 for one.

Windows own drivers will work.

Guy I work with stuck his lappy into the IT department for repair. It needed a new screen, hard drive and motherboard. The repair probably cost double the price of a new machine! Go figure!

You should sell it as broken if you aren't going to fix it. Good money paid for these and it's just losing value in the cupboard...

I replaced the screen and inverter on a Dell Inspiron for £60, quoted prices varied from £50 through to £180. Involved removing the bezel surround (6 screws), removing the screen (8 screws) and unclipping the connector strip. Found an instruction video on You Tube which showed just how easy it was and also demonstrated potential problem areas.

Check out ebay ,theres a company from Carrickfergus in Ireland that sells them .I bought one for a Advent for £99.Ordered on Thursday and it was delivered on Friday ............the very next day.Excellent service. Not sure what make you have but it's worth checking out the site.Easy to fit but lots of small screws and always a bit fiddly. You would be able to get a spares or repair laptop with a decent screen from the same auction site if your lucky and it'll be alot cheaper .The choice is yours.
