No-one knows! When I rep a newbie, as I have higher rep myself, it give 2 green boxes. But somtimes when I rep someone with a few boxes, it only jumps up one.

We really don't know much about these green boxes....

The higher your rep the more rep'ing power you have. The tiers of reputation are at variable things though. So let's say you have a high enough rep power to give 10 points at a time. So the first tier is 2 and second tier 7 points. Thus you would up them two tiers with your 10 points. However, the third tier is 20 points so next time you rep them they would go up but not enough to trip over another tier.

Hope that makes sense?

I was being repped quite a few times and i appeared to be stuck on 2 green boxes for ages.It is now on 3. Does that mean i was being repped more by lower repping power peeps than higher ones.:)
[admin]#6
Well not necessarily. It just meant it took you longer to accumulate enough points to get to the next level.

Why am i not allowed to give more rep to someone who i think deserves it without spreading it around to some one else.

I gave up on understanding rep points a while ago now, they what they are.

The reason is to make sure no one tries to manipulate the system too much. Let's say you wanted a high rep you could just make another user name and rep each other back and forth. This prevents that somewhat by making you equalise that action by bringing other reps up too.

Why would somebody want a high rep? I don't see the point, there is nothing to gain from a high rep, is there?????
Can we have the option to 'disable' the rep counter thingy like you do?

A higher rep goes towards the weight your vote gives when voting on deals.

I understand that, but if I don't think a deal is that good I don't want to make it cold because I have a high rep and I don't want to push the meter thingy too far into the negative, so I don't even vote on deals I don't think are good.

You won't make it cold by having a high reputation unless you click on the cold voting button.
