The mods post some great deals and normally I'd leave some rep and add some thanks in the thread but I got to thinking. If you are an all powerful HDUK superbeing (mod) does rep make any difference?

Just wondering do mods like rep like the rest of us?

LOL I like it, I enjoy reading the comments. I'm nearly on 10,000 rep points, so it's an indicator of how many people I have helped
#2
Our votes etc are still calculated in exactly the same as yours, and it's still nice to watch the rep points go up in our CP.

:-D
#3
Yes,we love getting rep, just like everyone else but unlike Emma, i've only managed to earn half the rep points she has.......... and i'm not doing a great job posing as a moderator. :p

Seconded :?

I think it's a joke...maybe you're doing a better job than you thought realfriendlyman :D
[helper]#7
So its official - the mods like rep!!!

I'll make sure I add rep....

Cheers
#8
We're not begging for it here... ! But it is a useful tool to show your appreciation of a deal.
#9
the rep system is a load of nonsense because it is not controlled...there are members on HUKD who have near to the max of green squares and have contributed very little to earn it....they tend to be within a group who constantly rep each other for simply making a one liner or passing compliments...nothing to do with hot deals or helping other members..just usually banter that has no interest outside of the group.

So please don't take it seriously...until Admin gets it sorted so that it more accurately reflects a members worth to the forum then take it with a pinch of salt.

Rep is just a bit of fun really, most of your voting power on the front page is based on the temperature of your previous deals.
[mod]#11
I still prefered the old karma system. At least i had some. Ha Ha.
#12
There's no real way to sort rep. You could restrict rep giving to those who just post deals but the people who 'help' would whinge and we'd just get even more of the find-dvd rip off, so called, deals posted everywhere in a desperate attempt to gain more pointless coloured boxes.

Might as well just switch to the 'thanks' method if people really need back slapping.

Lets not sidetrack this into the rep discussions again folks please, we have threads in comments for this.

Out of interest, do Mods ever leave rep?
#16
Yeah, wouldn't want to clutter the "Miscellaneous Musings and Random Nonsense" section.

I've had Rep from Emma but that's the only Mod who's Rep'd me.

Yeah, because I am looking at it from two different angles. 1. It would be unfair for Mods not to and 2. It would be unfair for mods to, due to their shockingly high rep points.

So I have decided to go with 3. They should decide whats right or them.

The problem with #2 is that some members have higher rep count than some mods.
I like giving rep if a member has 'helped' another member and watching their count go sky high :giggle:

COUGH !!! me too, dont think the mods like giving out rep :whistling: :giggle: :p

Hehe, just read my post earlier and i didn't write the joke as i was supposed to, oh well. :)

I think appreciation is crucial in a forum like this, as no one has anything to gain on here but a lot of people put a lot of hard work to make sure there's alot of good deals posted, so as many people as possible can benefit.

As someone mentioned earlier, rep is just a bit of fun and i would actually prefere to hear people have managed to buy a present for someone despite having a tight budget or helping them in other ways because of the deal posted or help provided from within the forum. :)
#23
I have only ever had one rep from a Mod and that was from Emma as a thank you. Cheers Emma, it was a major achievement.

As for the rep instance, almost 100% of my rep has come from helping people in the Deal Request forum which I have spent endless hours trying to help people as much as I can.

If am am clued up on a subject then BINGO, I know the answer, but most of the time I have to spend time researching items and products to try and get not just the best price, but the best possible solution for a persons needs. Obviously I do not really do this if I have no idea about the product they are looking for, but if it is within my knowledge and I think I can help further with 30 minutes research then I will do it. Otherwise I leave requests to the people that know what they are talking about.

Now I know this is called Hot UK Deals, but a lot of people on here subscribe to email services on here so they can post deals as and when they get them. Which is perfect, but please do not forget about the other parts of the forum that are ever increasingly growing and need to be brought into the equation.

The For Sale section is now massive and in fast flow compared to before Christmas, the Deal Request is a major key feature of the forum now and out of the whole forum I would imagine is the fastest mover over the last few months.

All of these come into the factor to count for rep points, along with the hot deals of course.

At the end of the day, it is not about rep, but all about the continued input from the forums members.

If a member continues to give continued valuable input on a regular basis then other forum members will notice this at their own accord.

Ooops, sorry guys, I have continued this into a rep thread.

Apologies. http://www.createphpbb.com/phpbb/images/smiles/uhohhide.gif

Can you see who leaves Rep unless the person leaves the name ?
#26
Only if f they leave leave their name Edi.

I used to be very careful of giving out rep, as it gives out so much in one go. But Admin mentioned something to me lately which I've been thinking about. The higher rep the members have, the greater the effect they have when they click the spam or expired buttons, helping the forum to run as it should.

So now lately, I have been giving out rep where deserved :-D Regulars with high rep are helping us mods keep the site running in the way admin envisions.
#27
Thats the whole point emma :)

Rep is always awarded where deserving.
#28
Yeah, lol I know. But a while back, I was only giving it out if someone really deserved it...

Makes sense in my head, I know what I mean!
#29
What are they, how do they work? Every time I look at my user CP I see these greyish/green dot things but can't find any explanation for them.....:?

See the help threads in my sig to explain all...

Reputation – What is it? (the little green bar) – Described by duckmagicuk2

http://www.nil.clan-hosts.net/hduk/reputation.jpg

You click on the http://www.hotukdeals.com/forums/images/custom_buttons/reputation.gif button underneath somebody's username if you find their post helpful. You are encouraged to spread it around as much as you like. When you click on the button you can leave positive rep (for helpful deals and things which have helped)

You can also leave a comment. Reputation is anonymous, however the recipient of the reputation will be able to see the comment and which post was made.

You can view your reputation points and comments people have left for you >>HERE<<, the page can also be accessed by clicking on "User CP" near the top-left of the forum. The most recent 5 comments are available for view, and the points are in the top right of the page.

What the different coloured boxes mean:
http://www.hotukdeals.com/forums/images/reputation/reputation_pos.gif Green lights in your rep mean that you have received positive reputation from someone with a positive reputation score. This will have increased your points.
http://www.hotukdeals.com/forums/images/reputation/reputation_balance.gif Grey lights are also positive rep, but have been given by someone with no reputation, and therefore does not have the ability to affect your reputation score. This will have had no effect on your points.

http://www.hotukdeals.com/forums/images/reputation/reputation_neg.gif Red box, this was a negative reputation, meaning someone reduced your points. However, we have now removed the power to negative rep from the forum, so you shuoldn't see any more of these

#35

#36
Hehe :) That's okay. It was in For Sale or Trade ;-)
#37
hehe im at work so attentions a bit diverted :P i was aiming at misc forum or so i thought!
#38
I suppose I'm still relatively new here compared to most. So heres my slant:

If you are genuinley helpful to people and post good deals/ comments/ help people out with free codes etc its much easier to earn your initial full line of rep. But I have noticed that once you get that you will find that people stop giving you rep for those sorts of things.

Do they A. Think that they wont affect you by giving you rep (which is wrong)
B. Just arent grateful
or C. Jealousy takes over and they refuse to give you any more until they have a full bar too?:giggle:

I dont post here for rep, but when I go out of my way for someone I suppose I do expect a thank you at least - as thats what I do when the boot is on the other foot and its me asking for help.
#39
I'm quite new to, One thing that bugged me was someone PM'ing today me to ask them to give rep and they'd gave me rep for saying well done to them.

I give rep when I think people deserve it basically when :

A. Someone is helpful or has gone to a lot of effort explaining something to somebody.

B: Similar to A, When I ask a question and useful answers are given.

C: When someone has made me laugh and brightened up my day a bit!!

So basically if you beg/ask for rep you won't get it!
#40
I am all repped out today, so I don't know how much I can give on a daily basis

I suppose it works a bit like giving blood :giggle:
