Think all of us on HUKD should vote for a better way of being able to sell on HUKD and to make it safer,

altho there is already guidelines for buyers and sellers this will only act in a way of cutting down people from selling and committing an offence.

Please post all comments and views.....

thanks for all that participate

i voted for "£50 max limit until mods lift limit... " because i feel like getting 3 green blocks, or 50 posts is to easy.
#2
At the end of the day, it is solely down to the buyer to 'check' the seller out.
Putting any restrictions in place does not mean the seller is trustworthy when they have 'met' them.
Everybody has the ability to use a Phone, Google and to ask plenty of questions. If they choose not to, then soz, but it's tough if everything goes pear shapped.

This is really just to help the community on here abit better Dino, this is a good community compared to some forums iv been on :p
I hate it when people get ripped off as i have been in the past ! :x

This poll isnt going to help world justice but just to make things just that bit more safer around these old parts

I understand that people can make there own phone calls and be more wary and make sure everything is in order but sometimes a fish gets through the net and thats where we need to vet it out. :)

Hi,
as i am still relatively new on here -how do you get more blocks ???
#5
Hi catwoman,

Green blocks are to do with your rep, people on here can rep you by clicking n the white scales under where your name is on a thread.
They can give you rep by giving you a nice comment which you can view in your User Cp.
The person with more green blocks and rep will result in you getting more points which are awarded with green blocks.
#6
Lee, People may think that the seller is completely trustworthy, according to HUKD, if they meet the requirements you are proposing and they may not bother doing any 'leg work' themselves. By adding some kind of 'requirements' for selling and a seller meeting them, you give out the wrong impression to potential buyers.
I hate scammers as much as the next person.

Hi,
Ok, -i got good feedback for a couple of things i sold on here -could i have got a rep for those??
#8
i voted the £50 max limit, although i think it should be lower...like £20 maybe. although a combo of that with a post minimum and a rep minimum would be ideal.
#9
Caveat Emptor i'm afraid. You pays your money and takes your chance.
It's a buyers market and no-one forces anyone to purchase anything.
#10
I chose "Im not bothered if people get ripped off..."

Just because I don't like the other options. It's not that I don't care that people get ripped off. But most of the time the people that get ripped off are of the 'act now, think later' type. And could have been easily prevented if they were more cautious.

Restrictions don't really do anything. If some one wants to attempt to scam you they'll do it.
50 posts? Some people do that in a day; 'good deal' 'voted hot'. It doesn't take long.
I think that putting a £50 restriction, would put buyers into a false sense of security. They could still be scammed, just £50 at a time.
The rep blocks could work, but is still flawed.

Im not saying sellers will be 100% totally trustworthy, all im saying is this may help matters that's all Dino

Everyone still has the guidelines which are placed on every thread which is always posted
by the mods and everyone should take heed and read them and do what is necessary to help with a better, safer and more reliable transaction.

Were all a part of this great community here on HUKD, we all hate scammers so lets all act now and do something before it happens time and time again.....then a year down the line we say "oh we really should have done that a while ago"

Im just thinking of all of us on here, i really like the great bunch of people that use this site (group hug ) lol

How about :- £25 or £30 limit, until you have at least 3 boxes and over 40 posts?
#13
That sounds ok Emasu, that way at least the limit would be in place until you have a few feedback comments on your feedback profile and in time your green blocks would be added then you can sell things with a higher price.

good comments everyone, i like everyones views

The Mods post this Disclaimer, I mean Forum Guidelines to 'help' buyers and sellers:-

This message is being inserted in all For Sale or Trade forum threads.

Please be advised, all buyers and sellers should satisfy themselves that either party is genuine by providing the following via PM to each other, as well as to Admin or Moderator:

1]Landline telephone number Make a CALL to check out the area code and number are correct too!
2]Name and address including postcode
3]Valid e-mail address [no disposable addresses such as @gmail or @yahoo for example].
4]Using PayPal then check out eBay feedback if there is any and make a small payment to and from each other to validate the PayPal e-mail address.
5]If possible, collect and pay for items in person
6]Only buyfrom Verified PayPal Members if possible.

Do NOT proceed with a deal until you are completely satisfied with all details being correct. It's in your best interest to check out these details yourself.

NOTE: Please post images of the actual items for sale. This helps your sale or trade by showing the condition and also that you have the product in your possession. Thanks!

If everybody complied with these, I don't see any problems.
#15
But there still is problems Dino, thats why i say Emasu's idea might help avoid the ones that dont read the guidlines

call it a safety measure !

I agree Steve, but people are too worried about getting a bargain, that they don't take the time to really make sure everything about the deal is safe and sound.
#17
Yeh i think if your a newbie on here you should have a max limit of say £30 selling limit,
then when youve gathered some good feedback and some rep blocks then and only then will the limit be lifted.

Scammers that come on here usually want a quick buck then make a fast get away, this measure will at least might put them off trying to do a fast scam.
#18
i totally agree with steve...no matter what precautions or safety measures we take...ppl impatient to grab that to good to be true bargain will go for it. and afterwards think....ah i didnt check this or whatever ...although there are some good ideas, there are always ways to overcome them ...

In that case who's fault is it if they get scammed? Their own.
No matter how many 'Precautions, Guidelines, Warnings etc' you put in place a scammer will still slip through the 'net' and try and 'scam' somebody.

The Mods or Admin are not here to hold somebodies hand whilst they are partaking in a sale transaction on or off HUKD.
BUYER BEWARE, end of.

So any more comments, iv pm'd all the mods to see what they think and share their views

thanks everyone

These "extra measures" may actually not help matters.

A new person who is not particularly "clued up" MAY think that anyone who fulfils this newly proposed criterion (say 50 posts) is fully reliable. Therefore due to this new measure, they don't bother checking up on the seller (phone, address etc.). However with the current measures in place, a buyer is fully aware that they must check up on the seller themself and therefore only purchase when they are happy.

This new measure may end up with people blaming HUKD (and therefore admin) if a person who has 50 posts turns out to be a scammer.
#22
No, if you read posts before these ones i mentioned that the guidlines will still be in place and put on every thread started by a mod.
The old guidlines should be adhered to and read fully and this new measure in place, we just need to tighten the net a bit more.
#23
Any action like £30 until mods change their limit is well unpractical as it shifts responsibility to HUKD's already busy mods, and potential liability to them if it goes pear shaped. They are better off minimising their involvement to the level they do now.
Honestly what would be point in rep/posts?
I could post 50 times and get 3 blocks no problems. Many members can give that much rep in a click now.
If you think that's a good indicator then look under the avatar of the person you are dealing with yourself ON TOP OF all the usual phone landline/paypal verified/ ebay feedback/HUKD feedback. It ain't hard.

Could we make the forum rules more visible, like this?

Why? People will still ignore them??
#26
I've also made a few amendments to the rules, see if you can guess them

It's just a suggestion :)

It's just a suggestion :)

Sorry, i know :) But I stick by what I said. As to your point number 7, all the mods can do is remove a thread. We're not going to go and check up on their eBay credentials, or phone them or anything. That is all up to the buyer.

I have to say I agree with most of the points that Dino has already made in this thread.
#29
what about a feedback rating system the same as our rep green blocks?

like the more positive feedback you get from selling items the more your percentage of say red blocks goes up, might make people more aware or cautious of the person who doesnt have any and make them want to follow all the guidelines.

Yeah we can all do what Dino says which we try to drum into buyers but at the end of the day people still aren't following the guidelines and are still getting scammed as of HU5TLER in the other thread forum (for which i hope he hasnt).

#31
At the end of the day:-

If you don't do the proper checks, you will/may get stung. We've got a feedback system, and that works OK at the moment. As for newbie sellers, check everything thoroughly, and go a bit deeper if you feel the need to. If you just "jump" at the bargain and lose out, IT'S YOUR FAULT.

We have a feedback system!
http://www.hotukdeals.com/forum-feedback

Yes but link it to under our green blocks to be viewed or a link button to easily view our feedbacks,
Still people come on here and when i sell an item to them i ask them to leave feedback and there like " Eh ??"
People still don't know how to work the feedback system.

3 green blocks?

I only sneezed and I got 3 blocks :whistling:
#34
its only an example Col :p:p
#35
If i give someone with 1 block, they go up to 3 blocks - so the rep blocks thing is pointless - I stand by my above statement statement ^^^^
#36
Making it more visible isn't unreasonable - link to leave fb is in mods posts, if only people bothered to read the notices.
Perhaps just put "HUKD Feedback System" in bold linked within those posts.

saxo_appeal

An example or a possible suggestion? Either way will hardly limit the fraud. Same as 50 posts (which can take less than half an hour).
#38
50 posts in half an hour? Bit difficult. Max one every 30 seconds is 25min but finding something non spammish to post wouldnt be easy. Could spot someone deliberately going for 50 a mile away by looking at their post history. Would be "Thanks" x 50 most likely.
#39
Ok invest half hour here half hour there.

Then rob people of a few pounds.

No great difficulty
#40
True enough. Tbh I think the bulk of victims had it coming for being greedy.
As ever, if it looks too good to be true it probably is!
