why is it that when you go into a Indian/Chinese restaurant for example, they have chips or jacket potato/rump steak on the menu?? I usually notice this in the lower class restaurant/fast food joints.

shame on anyone who orders chips when you eat out or take away from these establishments.

I I see alot of people regularly eating a curry at a restaurant, then have a side order of chips.

thats because the steak is like £11-12 the same cost as a curry. Im saying you dont order chips when you go out to a foreign restaurant, were they don't eat chips, they just put it on the menu for the simpletons.

Well for one....im not simpleton, and two im pretty sure people who order like a good curry like a side order anyway. Maybe everyone else in the world is a simpleton and your the only normal one

And as for 'you dont order chips when you go out to a foreign restaurant, were they don't eat chips' I dont think ive been abroad once where chips havn't been on the menu :p

#14

lol, im guessing you have been to all the "Brit resorts" then. A side order of rice/chapatti or something I get, but chips shows someone with little culture.

well, i think its cos (like some have said) a group may go out and just order alot of 'variety' plainer dishes and the proper food of which ever style it is.. chinese/indian etc....because there are the odd few who dont like much. I dont think people generally go in and just get chips, unless the chippy is closed and they want some to take out maybe? lol who knows.

i concur, they should also do away with knifes and forks. the masses should be trained to eat the food as it was meant to be eaten be that with chopsticks or a leaf native to the respective region.

Ok, lets say (for example) yourself and 10 members of your family were going out for a curry and your lovely 94 year old nan was busting to come along but she cant eat rice (maybe she's allergic to it or just doesn't like it). Now do you tell your nan life's tough so just stay at home all by herself whilst we're all out, or do you tell her to still come along but just have some chips with her curry instead??

I AM SAYING THAT WHEN YOU ORDER A CURRY FOR EXAMPLE, YOU SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED TO ORDER CHIPS WITH IT.

IF YOU ORDER A STEAK, THEN YES ORDER CHIPS WITH IT, BUT NOT CURRY + a non Indian type of food with it. :)

sorry had to do bold, people were trying to twist what I was saying, but you aint getting past bg1 that easily brahs :p

Heaven forbid....if someone did this the world would end as we know it and everyone would be forced to eat curry and chips FOREVER!

not really, you most likley went to a area which is most likely to be British populated or a tourist spot.

lol @ anyone who goes on holiday to another country, then eats MacDonalds, this is what im talking about, everybody in the uk is so sheltered.

Not saying I go to macdonalds, as i never do on holiday and wouldnt want to, thats probably there for the kids (you obviously dont have any) but it isnt a crime asking for a side order....obviously your too middle class to realise that

I try and shy away from the "norm" if I do go out to eat but I know that some other adults with children wouldnt go to a specific restaurant if they didnt serve chips. I cant really see a 5 year old wanting a Lamb Biryani. I could be wrong.
Saying that, if it is just adults going out then you would usually expect them to opt for something a little different to what can be ordered in all non genre specific restaurants. I think that there would be far worse consequences if chips werent on every menu!! I dread to think what consequences!!! :x
