I currently have a jailbroken iPod Touch on iOS 4.0

I am going to give it to a member of my family what's the best way to restore it without losing the jailbreak.

thanks

Why not un-jailbreak it and set it back to the "real" OS. That way whoever gets it has to pay for their apps like any other honest person.

No doubt you rape animals and run over children for fun too.

DJ1, you realise that people dont just jailbreak to get free apps right?

In answer to the OPs question, as long as you dont upgrade to 4.0.2, the jailbreaking takes 1 minute through jailbreakme.com so it does not matter if you lose the JB as it only takes a moment to re jailbreak anyway.

In a more kind answer to you than the above. As far as I know any restore via itunes would remove the jailbreak, unless you have literally everything backed up (SSHS (i think those are the letters)) But probably my best advise is restore it to a jailbreakable firmware, by downloading the selected firmware (millions of sites online just google the firmware you want). Then restore it to that by pressing shift when you click restore in itunes, and selecting the downloaded firmware. Then just re- jailbreak the ipod. Probably best to just use the jailbreak me download within the safari browser.

As far as i know only 4.02 cant be jailbroken (but as thats the most useless update ever dont worry).

One thing to remember, dont attempt to restore the ipod to a firmware older than what you now have. It can be done, but itunes always seems to give an error message.

Like most people that download Xbox games do so as a "backup" to ones they own? Yeah.

I done it by holding shift and left click on restore in itunes
