Hello all

ive got a YLOD ps3. How can I transfer the data onto a external HDD and then transfer the data back into a new ps3 ive bought.

Can I take the HDD out of the YLOD ps3, connect it to a pc,and transfer stuff that way?

Is it possible to access that account(YLOD ps3) via my new machine by inputting my username and password? Or will the new machine not accept a username/password from another machine?

Failing that, anyone in the Northwest prepared to fix this for me as I am hopeless with DIY.

im pretty sure your data is lost. putting the HDD into a new machine automatically formats it. the only thing you can retrieve is online stuff assoc with your PSN id or fix the YLOD machine - which i did but its broke again

woah woah woah there!!!

so all my downloads are not lost? so i can have two seperate accounts on my one ps3 meaning the new account I have created on the new machine plus my old psn account which I can transfer over? If thats the case then woo bloody hoo!!!!!!

so long as all my games, themes etc which I have downloaded on my old account are still there, even just as downloads then that is sweet as. I don't mind re configuring my stuff with the themes and stuff, so long as all the stuff I bought is still registered.

I understand my game saves etc will be lost but thats something I can live with if that means I have access to my downloaded stuff.

Get another ps3 and log-in via psn and its all ready to download. You can do that on up to 5 other ps3's.

You get 5 licences when buying software off the psn, some games are locked i.e warhawk where that only 1 licence can play online at once.

like the last guy, said you dont need a new PSN id just log in with your old one, go to download history and re-download anything you've bought.

The only downer, which i have is one of my 5 licence uses is stuck on the broken machine. does anyone know how to cease the account so it doesnt look like i have two active accounts, or in case i sell the PS3 to someone who might fix it then see my info?

Don't see why you can't ghost them? Or does the PS3 know you changed the hard drive?

you cant transfer the data as the ps3 knows when a new hard drive is inserted

The only way of you to get data back is for you to somehow to get the console up and running again

You can ring Sony up and say your old one YLOD so can they release the licence. Quote the active machine and ideally you'll need the serial of the old machine aswell but usually just quoting your active machine proves its your account and they'll give you the licence back.

I've emailed them, no reply yet. I dont see how this stops the new owner fixing the phat PS3 and spending my wallet though by looging on my psn id

to fix YLOD, use 'gilksys' method on youtube,
i fixed mine that way, then back up data to external hardrive and then traded half working Fat ps3 to Game for a nice slim one :-)

don't Game and CEX check wether the machine has been YLOD fixed? I was thinking of doing that but thought they would check the machine and reject it.......

don't they check wether the seal has been broken etc?

Any links to a reliable method mentioned above with videos, please.

Would a electrician be able to look at the videos and fix the machine?
