Returning Laptop to PC World

I bought a laptop on saturday and opened it earlier today only to realise that it is too big and not as portable as I had hoped.
Is it possible to return to them as it is within 7 days and in perfect condition. I turned it on once to check if it works and thats about it

Yeh i am sure it will be but does depend on the store just make sure you put it all back in the box correctly and try making it looked like it hasnt been opened but even if they realise im sure it will be ok.

I had a previous computer for 4 months and complained that it wasnt as good as i thought etc and they let me exchange it for a computer that was £100 more than i paid for mine (4 months previously) for no extra.

My local one seem very good.

Good luck!!

I put it back in the box exactly as I found it. Should I tell them I opened it?
I don't really know what to say to them when I walk in, something along the lines of "I want something smaller" lol

you are entitled to a refund/replacement within 28 days on faulty items
after 28 days it goes in for repair
and it HAS got an intermittent fault hasnt it,
"NUDGE NUDGE WINK WINK"
#4
No just say you decided you dont want it.

or do as above says and say its got a fault!!
#5
What sort of fault can I say it has without them realizing?
Also, won't they make me get the same laptop again?
Can I say something like it turns itself off randomly
#6
why bother? just put it back in the box, tape it up, and tell them it has never been opened, as long as it looks ok from the outside they aren't going tp open it and check in front of you on the shop floor.
#7
Well the fact is I bought it on saturday?
I'm sure they can tell a piece of selotape above the do not break seal tape...

Yeh you can say that so then if they tested it then you could say 'as i said it does it randomly' but personally i would just take it back and say i changed my mind and say you havent opened it.
But up to you.
If you go with the faulty option then just say no i dont want the same because it has put you off so you want a different one!! And remember to try before you buy this time. Use their display model to check you like it.

Good luck!!

Depends how the staff are really, I dealt with a moody old man last time I went. I tried claiming the 5% discount from this site and he wasn't too pleasant.
I put selotape over it though so they might be able to tell I opened it.
If they do check the actual laptop they might see I actually turned it on...

ok Arif you can get stroppy with me if you want, but it doesnt chnage the fact that the best course of action is just to go in with the reciept and tell them you have changed your mind.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not getting stroppy at all. I'm just saying if I stand there and they see through my lie, I'm screwed

I can understand your concern, but I have done this sort of thing with laptops before, package it all up as it came, tape it back down neatly and they wont say anything...you have afterall only had it 2/3 days.
As long as you dont act like you are trying something dodgy (which you are indeed definately not), they wont bat an eyelid at you, and will give a refund .

Your location is Wales, is it by chance the cardiff branch you are on about?
That's the one I'm headed to
#14
close, but not quite, my experiences have been with the swansea branch, but as i said you really shouldn't have any problem unless you make it seem to them like your expecting one yourself!
#15
You have 28 days for a simple change of mind so what they said is bull.
If you have any problems then just say you want to see a manager normally that sorts it out straight away, if not and the manager is still unhelpful tell then you wish to speak to head office on the telephone but i would be very suprised if it came to any of this at all.
#16
I'm guessing it'll be mostl likely an exchange rather than a refund. I'm sure they'll be more willing to do that than have me walk out of there purchasing something from somewhere else. I heard somewhere that I have to pay a 10% return fee if there are no faults with the item? Please tell me this is bull too!
#17
i think if you told them it was faulty, i think they will take it for a repair and try fix it for you using their tech guys. thats what they did to my mates laptop, although i seriously do think he tried to break it on purpose just cos he didnt like it, anyways it went for repair loads 4/5 times, i was there when they read the fault report that water had been spilt on it.

The T&C are different for purchases in store or via on line sale along with delivery.
The difference is with store purchase you have the opportunity to see the item you are purchasing before you buy.

See http://www.pcworld.co.uk/martprd/editorial/RefundsReturnsPolicy

[COLOR="Red"]They are not under any obligation to take it back if purchased in store or reserve and collect!!!!!

I am afraid Timber is right. PC world and DSG stores have a clear policy of instore purchases. Because you can see, touch and feel the product, you cannot return it as a "change of mind". This is simply because new and improved models come out every 2 weeks, and if this was allowed people would simply change laptops every 2weeks to get better deals and newer technology. Online purchases are different as you dont have a chance to see the product, and you are entitled to a refund withing 10-14days (depends on stores, some have it for 28days as well).

The only exception (I know of ) is Costco, where you can take a product and return it within 90 (it varies from 90-180 days) days and say you've changed your mind. Also if you bought anything from Dixons Tax free (at BAA airports), you can send it back even if you've opened it withing 14 days. This is because Dixons tax free at the airports (infact any store at the airport) have to adhere to a BAA regulation which is in addition to standard rules they follow.

They didn't let me return it!!
Is it possible to return to another store?
I'm afraid of going back another day and saying it's faulty

This is a myth, nobody has a 28 day change of mind right.

Right, im gutted I diddnt get involved on this a bit quicker, I know the pc world returns dept very well.

Can you explain what u said to them, and then tell me what they said, and I will tell u what to do next.
#23
Just said to them I opened it, realised it was too big. Parents were there too lol trying to help out but to no avail. The guy said as soon as its been turned on its classed as used and they can't take it. My dads taking it to the merthyr store now on his way to work, he'll probably tell them it's faulty and see if we have any luck there.

Right, there is 2 ways you can go about this. Get your dad to take it in, and say, he is on his way to work and hasnt alot of time. BUt you are used to windows XP, not vista, and you turned it on and diddnt accept the EULA agreement terms. You have the right to a refund immediately, tell them you want a refund.

Way 2, is to plead with them, get a manager and say you have been a good customer for blah blah blah, and plead with them. Another thing, if the manager wont help you, ask to speak to the general manager, they usually have too much to do and just do it, they want to keep you happy at the end of the day. But be nice, dont lose your rag, and PLEAD with them. If the general manager doesnt help, ask for the area managers name, they must give this to you. Basically, you need to go higher and higher to get somewhere. Let me know how u get on.

no problems. ANother thing here as well, did you buy cover with the laptop? IF you did, the original store would be very reluctant to refund due to this, but another store would love to refund because they would get one over on the other store because a cover refund goes off the original stores bonus!
