My Medion is falling apart within 8 months of buying it from Sainsburys brand new for £599 back in August last year,

I cant find my receipt anywhere, looked high and low and still nothing, could someone let me know where i stand with regards to my rights,

The model i purchased was only released by Medion on the 7th of August 2008 so it cant be out of warranty as the model is only 8 months old, i have emailed Medion and they emailed me back to say "Please find your receipt and contact to arrange a repair"

But before i call them to let them know i cant find my receipt i just wanted to know what my rights were as i can prove it is not out of warranty, jsut incase they get shirty with me,

it will still be in warrenty, so if sainsburys dont take it back, the manufacturer will as they can tell by the serial number of the lappy. Try sainsburys anyway! good luck!

someone posted on here the other week they sent one off to medion, who refused to repair it without a receipt even though medion knew when it was sold, mine had to go back to medion many moons ago under the 12 month warranty and although they again knew when it was sold they said without a receipt they wouldnt touch it, luckily i had mine

the reciept is proof that you have payed for the item, without it you could have obtained the item through unlawful means. Hence why they need it either way.

i dont know about consumer rights, the other person is the same as you but purchased from a local shop not sainsburys and as this was only available via sansburys they refused to fix even knowing it was under warranty, i will try and find you the thread

do you have contents insurance? if so you could claim on that is it covers your laptop for breakdowns

medion are assholes and will probably say it proves a purchase via sainsburys, not proof of a laptop purchase

if you paid via cc, then get intouch with them, they are jointly responsible for this purchase

I paid cash, and i did put the points on my nectar card if that makes any difference, i have looked on the sainsburys nectar site to see if you can check a statement etc but cant find anything, and i do have contents insurance so could look into that,

I had an Acer for about 4 years before and never had a problem, the lady in Sainsburys even said to me after i had paid that they are great laptops, she claimed she had an older model and never had a problem (but then i suppose she would say that!!)

Also just ask around and use someone else's receipt.

mine started falling apart before 12 months where up, needed a new motherboard, about 16 months the battery was knackered, then it just started falling apart, how its still going is beyond me, i paid £900 for my laptop

The plastic casing around the fingerprint reader has broken, the cd/dvd writer no longer reads or writes and the mouse pad is starting to fail and my battery is shot, so i know how you feel (only £300 less out of pocket)

i really dont know how mine is still going, its been knackered since it was 16 months old, and its over 5 years now, just have to twiddle things her and there, etc,etc

Thanks for the idea but i emailed today and told them what store i purchased it from and i emailed them the serial number etc from the underside, so i would have to find someone who purchased one from Tamworth Sainsburys in August of 08,

i know its a long shot but have you tried sainsburys, ask to speak to the manager and explain and see f they can help, i know probs not but worth a try

I suppose i have nothing to lose, will give it a go tomorrow, here is the email reply from Medion (funny thing is my names not even Mr Jones?? so i dont know where he got that from:)

Dear Mr Jones,

Thank you for your message.


Please locate your receipt and call the hotline on 08707 270 370 to arrange a repair.

well im all outof ideas, but i think its worth giving sainsburys a go, stand your ground and expalin how gutted you are and is there any way to track this via their system

medion arent going to back down, trust me, dont waste your time with a phone call, head over to sainsburys and ask to speak to the manager, good luck and fingers crossed for ya

Sainburys and Medion both must be carp as if you got it from Asda or anywhere else they would sort it out without any questions as long though within a year!!
