Hi

Theres a deal on with icelandair at the mo - we were thinking of going , but other than going to the blue lagoon which takes up half a day , what else is there to do ?

Do you think it would be worth renting a car ? Or what about public transport - is it reasonable ? , is it recommeneded , what about eating out ?

Any other tips etc ? Thanks

not been recently-probs about 8 or 9 years ago and it was STUPIDLY expensive then-they have a completely different standard of living to us-

you will be shocked at even the most basic things-its a lovely place but be prepared to spend lots of cash.

We went a few years ago and it was terrific but expensive. Apparently since the banking crash it's become the opposite and a good value destination. We knew people there who drove us but definitely worth driving around. The place was covered in snow when we were there but there are greenhouses growing bananas heated geothermically in the middle of nowhere. Things to do: Geysir, Grunfoss, Thingvellir, Northern Lights, Whale watching, erupting volcano (if that happens I'll be on the next flight!).Check this

We flew BA for £80 return, admittedly stayed with friends so no accom but they dont go there anymore and it was in their 'sale'. And a long weekend is enough. They are falling over themselves for visitors and exch rate is way up on where it was before the country went bankrupt, so it now isnt expensive any more. Having said that I dont think there are too many cheap flights at the moment.
