Ridiculous Car Insurance!

CheeseCake90 Avatar

My policy is exactly the same as last year (actually better, less annual mileage, car values gone down etc) and I'm getting quotes that are £1800 more than last time!! How can this be, surely my insurance can't increase if I have a clean slate on it?

how old are you?
can you put an older named driver on - ususally helps?
Who is quoting you £1800+?
#2
Have you had any "incidents"???
#3
Erm, get some other quotes elsewhere?

I've been with Elephant for 4 years and am jumping ship in January. Sick of them not recognising increasing NCB, etc. Just checked Admiral and they are £300 per year cheaper (aren't they owned by the same group as Elephant?)

Try Aviva too.. got good quotes this year with them for both my cars
#5
Did you have a sex change?
#6
because car insurance has risen over the last few years!
#7
Simply they dont want your business anymore.

-----------------
Yes they are sister companies and if you give Elephant the quote reference number from admiral (don't even need that as they can look on there system) and they will price match the quote.

I went through this not long ago when Admiral was 300 quid cheaper, and trying to get elephant to drop was near impossible.............until they found out my quote was from Admiral!!!

Yep... I posted this after checking on most of the cpmarison sites, and other insurance companies aswell, just to get an idea I got a quote for just me as named drive, highest I got was £25,000! oO Highest I had last year was arount £10,000 lol, big difference
#12
wat car do you exactly drive but insurance has shot up yet again!!
suspended#13
Cars only insurance group 4 or 5, I'm still trying to fathom how the 25,000 quote justifys itself lol
#14
insurance companys always do this they hope you wont double check with others,i bet if you phone to cancell they will match your best deal

my house, car ,and buildings insurance go up every year and ive never claimed in the 13 years ive had the policies
#15
my car insurance has done exactly the same. went up from £400 odds last year to £790 this year! 5 years no claims, will be 25 in Jan putting an older driver on for me makes no difference! i done all the price comparison websites and also tried aviva, direct line etc etc and cheapest i could get was £760! ridiculous how much things have gone up!
suspended#16
Directline have just quoted me a policy thats £500 cheaper than my current, so all hope is not lost after all!
Thaks for the pointer jamstar, I'll call my insurance and see if they'll match/beat it

Glad I'm not the only one then! But really it shouldn't happen, stupid greedy insurers :|

Unfortunately nowadays we are paying for the thousands of Non insured idiots who think they are exempt from paying.
Same old story we are paying for the criminal fraturnity who go through life sponging ,shoplifting and driving unisured cars and having accidents
Rant over lol

Stick you mum or dad on as a named driver that can knock off a bit (as long as they have a licence)

My renewal came in last week at £440 , £100 dearer than last year, just gone with LV tonight at £240 fully comp so got a good deal.

The other thing to bear in mind, fully comp can be cheaper than TPFT now too

Yeah this happens to me every year, direct line send me my renewal for my house insurance and it's usually £200+ more expensive even though I have never claimed, I phone up to cancel and they can suddenly match last years price

the problem is personal injury fraud in motor vehicle accidents.theres a few scammers in various parts of country allmaking bogus and over inflated claims.
#23
The one that always comes out on top for me is Swift Cover - And try not to put too many old people on the policy, because it will have a negative effect.

Either put you as a main and then put one older person on there which will lower the policy by a third usually. Or put the older driver as the main, and you as a named. Even though this is classed as wrong and may invalidate your policy if they find out!! Which they usually do!

Ahh......you are (illegally) "fronting" - that's weird, you would have thought that would have brought it down a bit. Oh well - don't go bragging on a national internet forum about it and you will be ok Oh - hang on.........

you do realise that is fraud and the insurance company most likely wont pay out if you claim? And you and the main policy holder will get prosecuted for no insurance.
#27
You might aswell put any details down if your fronting and just keep your name. As it will be invalid anyway so all your paying for is an invalid motor insurance certificate and being on the mid but if you crash you will be done for having no insurance

I think I used the wrong terms, my bad I'm not too "savy" with the insurance lingo... I thought named drived meant I'm the main/first driver? I only stated that the car's for me, as I thought it maybe weird that I have three other people in my policy... But yeh just to clear up, I'm the first person on the policy, whatever thats called :)

mine has done it too this year, currently paying £340 odd this year, 8 yrs no claims, so with protected NCB, legal cover and car they are now quoting £650odd this coming yr :( I have no claims, have no points on licence. Have tried all compare sites with no luck.

Maybe I should be a scum bag and drive with no insurance!!
Before any serious and high horsed people jump on me I was kidding with last comment! :)

Try direct line,... Direct from their website!

Despite reaching 7 years no claims and finally leaving the 'at risk age group', Lloyds still put an extra £200 quid onto my insurance. When I rang up to find out why, I got the usual drivel of more claims being made etc etc. When I said that I've checked the comparison websites and can get it for much cheaper, the lad simply said "Well I know what I would be doing if I was you" X)

Eventually got it through Quidco with Hastings. Still dearer than last year, but I had tried everywhere else!
