hi

if a ring with a square stone is descirbed as having a princess-cut 6mm single stone, does this mean the stone is 6mmX6mm, or that it measures 6mm diagonally?

link to the ring i'm looking at: http://www.fhinds.co.uk/Jewellery/Gold_Jewellery/Rings/Ladies_Gold_Rings/9ct_White_Gold_Princess_Cut_Cubic_Zirconia_Ring_186249.html

For measuring other cuts of stones you would go length and width as two seperate measurements.

For the Princess cut, because it is a square, I personaly would measure on the diagonal as it saves having to measure both length and width and so ends confusion.

By that trail of thought, I'd guess it's 6mm on the diagonal and about 3-4mm deep at the point.

F. Hinds could have their preference of measuring different to others, but that is the way I would do it.

Nice setting to let lots of light in to show up the stone

Hope that helps, or picture it as 6mm diagonaly then if it comes through as 6x6 bonus
