Reason its the rules.... err ok

Cappello's stock is starting to fall fast. This a stupid decision, and goes against what he stated when he took the job about form and consistency and no reputations etc.

Wonder what Stevie G makes of it all

I know were both LFC fans but regardless of if it was Lampard, Gerrard or even Barry, the decision is retarded.

Ferdinand is finished - just like Terry.

Gerrard was only covering for Rio while he was injured, Now he get's it back, Don't see what the big deal is really. Rio's a fantastic captain when fit. Capello's 100% correct.

^^ spot on.

Lol it's a terrible decision, Gerrard should have kept it.

I may be wrong but didnt Slur Alex make a similar decision to keep Vidic as captain over Ferdinand becuase he wanted someone who wont be injured every so often?

But Ferdinand is the official club capatain isn't he and Gerrard was given it because of his injury. How will it look if Gerrard keeps it when Ferdinand is not injured. Agreed that this causes a mess due to Rio being continually injured but that is the decision Capello made and now he must stand by it. The mistake made was giving him the captaincy in the first place IMO.

Ferdinand has done nothing wrong other than get injured, so it would be harsh to strip him of the captaincy if he's playing, but imo I doubt he wouldn't even be in the starting XI if Terry and Jagielka were fit.

Personally, I think Gerrard is a much better Captain than Ferdinand, and should have had the role in the first place anyway (wasn't he vice-captain to John Terry?) - he's driven England forward in the matches since the WC.

Sort it out Fabio.

Personally I don't think either of them are very good captains, if anything when their backs are up against the wall Gerrard especially shrinks further and further inwards rather than getting everyones heads up. Yes he has been a good captain since the WC but considering who we have been playing it's hardly been a test. When you are losing thats when you see who a real captain is.

Who would you have as Captain?

I don't really see a natural one tbh, all the midfielders are generally quiet people aren't they. In fact no one in the England squad seems to have much get up and go in them at all, perhaps that's half our problem.

Terry would be my captain if all things were equal.

Perhaps domineering hard faced captains are a thing of the past with our new era of over paid stars. They probably think that highly of themselves that they wouldn't listen to any advice from a captain anyway.

Is the Captaincy such a big thing nowadays (I mean the actual purpose of it, rather than the honour)? I can't actually think of many stand-out captains at the Premier League clubs (English or not) who really 'lead' the team. I'd still say Stevie is the best available option, but for me there's no one on the same level as some of the past captains.

They are often given to the most highly rated rather than the best leader, we had Barry once he became a 'star' yet he wouldn't say boo to a goose. Given time I can see Hart becoming a good captain as seems a bit mouthy and commanding.

To be honest i dont think gerrard should be the captain. He can no longer dominate/lead games the way he used!

He is a box-to-box midfielder, but with his age i dont think he can carry on doing to that for 90 mins or a regular basis. It seems roy hodgson has already noticed that as recently he has got him playing a bit deeper (similar to how paul scholes has had to change his game). The only problem i dont think gerrard has the same discipline/knowledge to play that role.

It maybe time for england now to groom a captain for the european championships, get some one young as the likes of gerrard, rio, lamps, terry will be in their mid/early 30's

Given that Hart, Johnson, Cole, Milner, Walcott / Lennon Rooney will probably be the main part of the team for the foresseasble future then only Hart stands out as a captain amongst them and I don't see that being for a few years. All the other positions are occuped by old age crocks who will come and go with injury and a captain from that group will always be hit and miss, as we are seeing now.

I think that every player who no doubt takes drugs should be made a role model and captain their country, Gerrard needs to have a ban, take some coke, play crap and be injured and then maybe he might have a chance, DRUGGIE FOR ENGLAND!!

I'm a LFC fan btw lol
