Watched the Film programme religiously growing up.

He had a sharp, dry wit.

Almost an institution when on the BBC and easily my favourite presenter of the BBC film programme.
The last reel has been run and he's gone to meet the executive producer.

Loved the theme tune. Never watched it after he left

I loved the and why not bit. You knew exactly what he meant by it but it was like it was an in joke between you and him. My husband could do exactly the same thing by slightly raising an eyebrow. I have known him reduce grown adults to gibbering wrecks without ever raising his voice. Such a talent and Barry Norman certainly had it

The 'catch phrase' was invented by the 'Spitting Image' writers for his puppet

It was just him. That slightly sardonic inference.

Jonathan Ross never really had the class to replace him and after that the show has just become irrelevant .

Apparently he didn't like his puppet but that is clearly a line so he can say "I'm the thinking woman's crumpet"... :D
