MURRAY v FEDERER - THE LOWDOWN

Andy Murray believes he will be mentally and physically ready to win his first Grand Slam title when he meets Roger Federer in the final of the Australian Open on Sunday.

The 22-year-old has been in the form of his career over the past fortnight at Melbourne Park as he has swept into the final having dropped just one set, beating defending champion Rafael Nadal along the way.

Murray could not have asked for a more difficult opponent in the final, however, with the world number one and 15-time Grand Slam winner lying in wait.

LIVE ON BBCi 08:45 Sunday,

Will murray ends 1500yrs of brit's wait for a grand slam,

Can't remember Henman getting to a Grand Slam final.

I hope Murray wins but will have to catch Federer on a bit of a off day as if he's playing to his normal standard then he's too good for anyone.

OH just told me I was a bit rude there but I wanted Henman to win at Wimbledon.

Head to head Federer leads 6-4, so theres always a chance, as syzable said if Federer has a slight off day who knows.

Federer is amazing but when Murray plays well he can match him and Federer knows this.

strange for a glaswegian to say that. Isn't it normally Scots if he wins and British if he loses on that side of Hadrians? ;-)

Always worked for Coulthard :p

Nice photoshopping. Oh wait.........................

First set Fed 6-3. Murray has to be pretty satisfied with the way he is playing, other than first serve at 45%. Keep going!
#23
Murray is doing well, but Federer is playing top class tennis. There is the odd shot here and there where you think that Murray is capable of doing better, but ultimately he's losing to a better player. I just hope he managed to recover this second set break in the next few games. Federer really is playing exceptionally well, so he's not going to get a lot of chances to come back into it.

Come Onn Murray

i thought she looks like a man or is that the same thing

Much better from Murray; now finding that extra bit of quality when he needs it. I wonder if it has come one set too late though.

Still an exceptionally high quality match. Intriguing to watch.

Underachiever? The guy has reached two grand slam finals at the age of 22, losing to the greatest player who has ever lived both times in matches where said greatest player of all time has hit top form.

I don't see any underachieving there. I have no doubt that Murray will eventually win a Grand Slam.

I have every doubt. Hes got less chance of winning Wimbledon than Henman did. I admit he is slightly better than that, but hes a number 3/4 player again.

Underachiever and very much a professional loser.

And your point is what? Henman was a serve volley specialist and Murray is a baseline player with a game that suits hard courts much more than grass. Hence his two grand slam finals on hard courts.

Henman reached a career high of four in the world and won eleven singles titles, never appearing in a Grand Slam final. Murray, at the age of 22, has been ranked as high as number two, has fourteen titles, and has now appeared in two Grand Slam finals. There is no comparison; Murray is a significantly better player.

Underachiever and very much a professional loser.

In every way a ridiculous comment.

vibeone
he's not attacking enough, not consistant enough
He's more than consistent enough. As for the attacking aspect, he has visibly thrown in some bigger offensive weapons into his shot selection this year so far. Did you see the match against Nadal? A prime example.

andy is a grea talent. good things await him!

i saw him in the us open in 08 he was amazing!

Also, on a further side note, a whinger? The guy had some fleeting disciplinary issues in his first couple of years as a pro, which can easily be put down to immaturity, and since has been a pretty model professional.
