Role player games

I'm new to Xbox and game consoles and have never played a role player game so looking for one to get.

I'm not on xboxlive so am looking for one that suits playing off line, one player, been looking at Fallout3 or perhaps Vegas but reading the reviews it sounds as though Vegas is full of bugs. CoD looks ok but from what i've read it better online.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

personally i found the 1st assasins creed awlful, the 2nd amazing, and the 3rd(brotherhood) is on my xmas list!
op - check out oblivion(the elder scrolls) and try and get the goty version..truely epic rpg gaming that will keep you going for weeks/months/years.

RPGs for Xbox:

Oblivion (dated, but good and will keep you going for 60-100+ hours easily)
Dragon Age Origins (decent, good longevity)
Final Fantasy 13 (Not the best in the series by a long shot - nothing can ever beat FF7 - but good nonetheless, but plenty of grinding after you beat the game to get 100%)
Assassins Creed 2 and beyond - Skip the first one as it is CRAP.
Mass Effect 1 and 2 - Quality RPGs with many hours of play.
Fable 2 and 3 - Have yet to play the third one, but I thoroughly enjoyed the second.
Borderlands - RPG/FPS but a brilliant game, best played with 3 friends.
Red Dead Redemption - Not exactly RPG, but a quality game.

Should keep you going :)

I thought that's what role player gamers were.

OK I'm a complete newbie to this what's a role player game and what's frs (also what does it stand for)?

I'm doing my best to keep up with this tech.

FPS: First person shooter. Shooting game where the standard viewpoint is from the first person perspective (looking from the characters eyes, as it were). See Doom/Halo/Call of Duty/Medal of Honour.

RPG: Role Playing Game. Typically set in the realms of fantasy (wizards, orcs, goblins, trolls, magic etc), gameplay tends to involve long periods of exploration, random fighting (which is often turn based, with you selecting what your character will do from a menu rather than real-time action), levelling up- normally accompanied by an epic story.

Alternatively, instead of typing out a couple of sweeping generalisations, I could have just given you these links:

If you like RPGs you should try out an MMORPG on the PC. Maybe this isn't something you can do at the moment, but you should definitely put it down as one of those things to try before you die lol
