What do you guys, especially Utd fans, think of this latest development.

Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney has contradicted club manager Sir Alex Ferguson by claiming he has not had an ankle injury this season.

"No, I've had no ankle problem all season," said Rooney when asked about his problems on the fitness front.

He was then asked as to why Ferguson had said he had an injury, Rooney replied: "I don't know."

this story has hit the back burner a bit due to the Liverpool saga rumbling on and on. But this could be a big issue for Utd this season

Maybe SAF tried to protect him by saying that he was out of form due to this injury.

I believe SAF. Watching Rooney against teams like Montenegro was evident. He used to just be able to ease past people with the ball but he just looks so tentative.

Shrek wants to go to city where the money and prospects are now, so this is his way of getting launched by Rudolph, thus getting paid up for the remainder of his contract.

Think Rooney peaked last year, all downhill from here I reckon.

Players lose confidence, Rooney is in this slump at the moment. He had an amazing end to last season and unfortunately could only drop from that.

He is underperforming but people are expecting too much.

clearly Fergie was trying to protect him and take the limelight off him a bit, Rooney is too thick to see that though.

Uh oh. Just like Michael Owen (who, incidentally, I would have in my team over Rooney at the moment!!).

...or....Rooney could be entirely disillusioned with Manchester United and want to leave with Sir Alex trying to put people off buying him by saying that he is injured.

Actually Owen was the comparison I was thinking of.

They really are. Apart from his penalty against whoever, he hasnt scored in the Premier League since March. That is form you expect of a defender. Not a world class striker.

I think he'll end up at Real Madrid. Whether that's for a fee this summer or on a free next i don't know but he's certainly not a happy chappy at the moment with his life or football. Can't feel sorry for him though as he's brought it all on himself.

I had wondered the same the last few months. Then I thought that Owen was plagued with injury and he hasnt lost his ability to finish. Owen lost his pace which made him one of the best strikers in the world at the time.

He can come to Chelsea - We'll have him, JT and Ashley tearing up the Kings Road.

Erm, isn't that sorta what I said?

Doubt he would want to move to a trophy buying team with no real footballing history.

Chelsea are the prime example of what is wrong with football today.

Be glad when roman buggers off and leaves the team back as it was, and frankly where they belong, a second rate midtable London club
