Wayne Rooney Signs New Manchester United Deal

Wayne Rooney has agreed a five-year contract to stay at Manchester United, the club has confirmed.

Describing it as "good news", a statement on the club's website said the deal follows "intensive discussions".
Sir Alex Ferguson said: "It's been a difficult week, but the intensity of the coverage is what we expect at Manchester United. I said to the boy that the door is always open and I’m delighted Wayne has agreed to stay.
"Sometimes, when you’re in a club, it can be hard to realise just how big it is and it takes something like the events of the last few days to make you understand. I think Wayne now understands what a great club Manchester United is.
"I'm pleased he has accepted the challenge to guide the younger players and establish himself as one of United's great players. It shows character and belief in what we stand for.
"I'm sure everyone involved with the Club will now get behind Wayne and show him the support he needs to produce the performances we know he is capable of."
Rooney said: "I'm delighted to sign another deal at United.
"In the last couple of days, I've talked to the manager and the owners and they’ve convinced me this is where I belong.
"I said on Wednesday the Manager’s a genius and it’s his belief and support that have convinced me to stay."

Why is he staying, after all that he has done. Seriously he has damaged his own rep in doing all he has done. This is bad for the team moral as well, he was basically saying this squad was not good enough for the future, how this going to make some players feel towards him. Atleast one thing is good about this the circus of speculation is finally over.

Guess he is bigger than the club then. Man utd fans can start loving him again now and all his teammates as well after telling them they will win nothing.

It was all a scam, I’d be really surprised if Fergie wasn’t behind it all, check this out:

Very good spin doctoring there: he’s raised his profile even higher, gonna get shed loads more money and forced the owners into getting a few new quality signings

Brilliant

This is my take on the whole saga lol (_;)

Ha cant wait for the dramatic u-turn by most Man U fans now

never saw that coming, thought it was all over for him!

Nice plan by Rooney and Sir Alex......... get him to sign a new deal so that he can continue playing for the 1st team without the fans being (so much) on his back, and then sell him in the summer for a higher transfer fee as he'll have more than 12-months left on his contract.

Sounds to me that he has been given a lot in the way of pastoral care by sir Alex, as his life was spiralling...This was definitely more to do with the state of Rooney person life, rather than football/business.

I wonder if it's all been a PR stunt :)

Isn't PR usually used to enhance the reputation of the people using it. This has been quite damaging to the club and Rooney's reputation.

That's about it! All talk about him cheating on his wife will be out of the picture for a while.

What a ****! :D
#26
itll be a complete joke when he runs down the pitch kissing the badge again. He is quickly turning into the country's most disliked player, which is strange because normally when there is a prodigal english talent with skills etc, like Gazza, the country loves him no matter who he plays for. Don't think you could say Rooney is loved

Anyone listening to Lou Macari on SSN?

"he's been listening to advisors...... bad advisors!" (spoken like advisors dad)

No It wont...his **** chasing ways will be dropped into every article written about him. All this has done is put him back into the spot light warts and all.

Love this quote from Shrek...See he really wants to stay with United

Funny to see majority of posts here from non UTD supporters slagging us off.
Ah well, he's staying just get on with it. Debating on and on will go nowhere and only serves to boost egos of the "told you so" crowd .

Ah, I'll add him back to my dream team now lol

My guess is United offered him a poor contract and now he's got what he wants it's all good.

It broke my heart, It's going to take at least 30 goals and 5000 length's at Old Trafford to fix it.

Odd's on a Rooney hat trick in his next game?
