Someone i know has had the bad news that they need root canal surgery - has anyone here had it done abroad due to the stupid amounts our dentists charge and if so, can you just say how it went and what kind of saving you got overall

Thanks!!

Had it done years ago and had nothing but trouble since.

Tell them to have the tooth taken out.

I had root canal and it really wasnt too bad. But i was in soooo much pain from the tooth what ever the dentist did felt better.

My tooth is fine now. I would go for the root canal.

I had a root canal, hurt a lot when had it done and it took2 visits. Had no trouble since.

Does your friend not have a NHS dentist? Max they charge will be £44.60 for a root canal. Even if they had to travel some way to get an NHS dentist, its better that than going abroad!

i paid around £80, if you can get it taken out, but if it will look bad leave it in, you will always feel like there is something in the gaps

I hope you guys have been brushing twice a day and using mouthwash after your root canal...

I had a root canal about 10 years ago, it hurt like hell when the dentist did it , then put a little metal post in to hold my new tooth ( cracked a front tooth) no problems now..lol i think it cost around £150.00 and that was including my porcelain tooth

This is exactly what i got done 3 years ago, never hurt me

I had root canal last year- I had to go back for 2 sessions. It really didn't hurt at all and I am quite a wimp! My mouth ached afterwards because my mouth had been wide open for a long time but that's the only 'bad' thing I remember.

It's weird but it didn't hurt.

Im exactly the same, im petrified of the dentist and needles so i was in a right state about it as veryone said it would be sore but i could feel something but it wasn't sore.

ohhh i wish i could say the same, but i dont do well with dentists and the numbing agent they use, but it did hurt, I do know someone that had a root canal a few weeks ago and she never felt a thing, the dentist took the root out from behind her tooth and left the tooth? didnt know they could do that. oh well live and learn. Op i'd tell your friend to have it done here in the UK it might be a bit expensive but if theres problems after theres no worries about finding a dentist to treat them,.

My dentist knows me well and knows to over load me with anastetic :w00t:

I had root canal done last month (cracked filling resulted in in the nerve rotting - nice). It was with an NHS dentist. It took 4 visits overall, mainly becuase there was an infection in the tooth. The most painful part was getting the injection to freeze it, after that it was a breeze.

It only cost about £65 by the way!

Thanks for all the replies - unfortunatley only private dentis, no such luck to have NHS here!

it wouldnt be financially effective to go abroad to have this done. decide whether to simply have the tooth extracted or to have the root canal treatment. Either way its certainly cheaper than going abroad, state of the pound as it is too.

had root canal treatment done privately, cost about 250ish in london.
