I have just one phone line wall socket, which is in the kitchen, and the internet in some of the rooms is quite weak. So I want to put the router in the corridor so its in the centre of the flat. I bought a 20m ethernet cable, only to realise that it wasn't the right one!

This is my router:

The current cable plugs in the 'DSL' socket on the far right. An ethernet connection [to one of the yellow sockets] does not establish an internet connection.

So...
1. What sort of cable would I have to buy to be able to extend the length of the router?
2. Is there a way to extend its length with the 20m ethernet cable I have just bought?

Thanks in advance guys, and excuse my ignorance! :)

Plug a filter into the mother socket on the wall, put the dsl cable into the filter and the other end into the router, plug the ethernet cable into one of the yellow ports on the router, then the other end into the back of your computer.

It will work as I have set peoples up like that alot and works great :)

you need a cable like this

Thanks for this.

There is already a filter in the mother socket. The thing is the router has to be in the corridor because there are more than one person using it, so the direct connection to the laptop is not an option. I was looking for a long DSL cable
