He's done it too many times and has been locked out.

A car radio shop will inlock it for around £15.00 and give you the correct code.

BTW. I have two Rovers.

Also, if he has not been locked out, then the wait notice gets longer each time the wrong code is entered.

Disconnecting the battery is no good.
I don't know the exact length of time but if you put the wrong code in, you can't enter another for a certain amount of time. The more wrong codes entered, the longer the wait to be able to enter another code.
He should call a Rover dealership - they'll have the code on their system but may try to charge him for it.
I had same problem and had to wait for up to 5 hours to be able to enter another code. Can be a long process with the wrong code!!!

Don't go to a Rover Dealer - they will overcharge you!!!!!! Look in the Yellow Pages for a local Car Radio Fitter.

Are there still Rover dealers about? I own a Rover and I thought the dealers had all gone!

LOL. There are still a few. My nearest one is in 20 miles away.

He said he gets no response when trying to re-enter the correct code! does he have to wait for the display to clear and not have wait on the display?

He has to wait while until CODE appears again. To be honest, if he's already waited hours, it looks like he has been locked out. He could just fit a non-Rover radio instead, which will solve the issue forever. They are usually quick and easy to fit on Rovers, but he will probably need to get a black one to fit in with the colour scheme of the dash.

From reading one of the threads I posted before, it took someones headunit an HOUR of uninterrupted power before it showed the 'code' prompt again. Apparently every time you enter an incorrect code the wait time doubles, so 1min, 2min, 4min, 8min... etc I just hope hes not tried more than ten times! I guess the best bet is to leave the ignition on for a while and see what happens.

the one hour of uninterrupted power is correct. thats usually after 3 tries though.

You would have better luck here - http://forums.mg-rover.org/ than bumping a 6 year old thread.
