Well, its building up closer to Christmas, and with that clearly post is starting to get later, but even the past couple of weeks has anyone noticed a decline in service?.

My own post I dont receive until midday, a lot of items sent first class arrive anywhere betweem 3-5 days...and frankly when you are waiting for items bought for Christmas its getting really annoying.

Anyone else noticed a decline in service since the strikes with later than usual delivery and first class items taking longer than the estimated 1-2 days? Or is it just me?

Any Ebay sellers sending out items and finding its hardly worth paying for first class as customers are complaining that their goods are not arriving?

Any postman out there that care to comment about the service and why you cannot meet the demands of first class post being "usually" 1-2 days?

Unfortunately I have to agree with the OP. My guess is it's a clampdown on the wage bill.
Saying that though we had a P/O delivery of some packets at 4pm Sunday last !!!
Crisis management ?

a while back i rang to complain cos my mail was coming late every day.on one day it came at 5PM.RM say that all mail should be delivered by 2pm ( i live in a town not in the sticks) and they apologised.received a letter saying ****** all really but that there was a shortage of staff in my area.from Jan all mail will be later cos van's over a certain weight will have to go slower ( or summat like that).a birthday card was sent to my daughter in May but she didn't receive it ( no money in it luckily).my son sent me a birthday card ahead of the strikes in October ( both cards were 1st class) but to this day i haven't had it.proof of posting is what you should have they say but what about those of us who use books of stamps.should we really have to go to the PO to do this? they make my blood boil

Might have been interesting to have logged onto Royal Mails website and looked at their jobs available in your area, to have seen if there really was a shortage of staff!

I just dont understand whereas before 90% of First Class post sent was received in 1-2 working days this record seems to have slipped right back.

One item posted to me on Friday first class, still awaiting, will be 4 working days tomorrow.

Three items posted on Saturday first class, still awaiting, 2 working days today...nothing.

I would hate to be selling items on Ebay right now, is it worth posting anything first class?

didn't know there were jobs on the site.anyway i looked and there was a permanent job for A postie working 20 hrs.

RM mail always come up with ******** in my opinion.i all my years first class post has always arrived the next day but RM say they AIM to deliver in 2 days.

in regards to posting stuff 1st class i would say no-it makes no difference.the only reason why i still do is cos i have the book in my purse but i won't be purchasing anymore.something else i find a pain is the recent change of price for envelopes/packages of a certain size.a birthday card for example that isn't small but not massive has to be taken to the PO to check the size and you have to pay more postage on it.i have a cardboard sizing chart but it's no use to me cos i'm just an ordinary consumer and don't sell on ebay.RM said at the time that it was a fairer way of doing things.i don't think so.total clowns they are

I can't get my head around what is going on with RM at the moment. I wouldn't send anything 1st class as I really don't think it gets there any quicker. I sent something to Australia on Thursday last week and it has already got there. However I sent something on 18th Nov in the UK and it still hasn't been received, its just so hit and miss.

My biggest gripe is with the pricing system. An item I used to sell on ebay was just 23p to post just a year a two ago now costs 92p - a 400% increase!! I have an old pricing list and the prices and gone up much more than people realise but the service hasn't improved at all.

Rant over......... :w00t:

our mail is hit and miss around here! (nottm) we rarely get it delivered before noon and very often there is no postie at all on a saturday. if the weather is bad, again, no mail.
I have actually been in and the postie has left his calling card saying he has tried to deliver a parcel, i have ran after him and he has not even got the package with him! gives the excuse that he tried to deliver the day before but didnt have any calling cards! what utter B*******!!!he just cant be ***** to carry it round with him, this has happened twice!

worst experience yet is waiting for something by special next day delivery.....didnt turn up and there was no calling card. left it a couple of days and went to sorting office to ask and they handed it over! "oooh that was lucky" mr postie said!
I didnt have to show any ID to claim it just told him my name & address, inside the letter was £300 worth of capital bonds!

My Rant over now......:w00t:

RM are getting tough with christmas cards this year too. If the correct postage isnt on it the person it is sent too will have to pay the extra postage plus £1. Problem is, they wont tell you what the letter is before you pay so you cant leave it incase its something you've ordered!

Have to say, my postman is great though :)

He shouts at us for filling his bag with orders, and tells us to stay off the computer! Opened the door a few days ago and he said "I dont like you mrs kerr" Lol - that was the first day we got loads of stuff from hmv! He is always laughing and smiling when he says stuff and will say hello to you if he sees you elsewhere!

I agree, and in fact improve on it by saying that the service is now worse!
Rip off rail fares, bus fares, water rates and postal charges. If it's a public service, you can just assume you will be ripped off in the UK.

Well us postman did warn you that this was going to be the case, and according to a majority on this website nobody really seemed to care what time they received their post as we were only striking for a better pay deal & didn't want to work our full hours.

Christmas Pressure starts next week, at the moment we are leaving our office at approx 9.30am. We should be getting out just after 8am next week so hopefully customers will be getting mail a little earlier, I suppose it just depends on how quick/good your postie is (we're not all brain dead & stupid).

No idea why first class mail is taking longer to be delivered, sorry can't answer that.

As for the poor/late service, don't expect any improvement. There are rumours that we will go to 7am starts next year with us leaving our office between 10.30-11am. Alan Leighton & Adam Crozier want it this way & couldn't careless what you the paying customer wants. They only care about the big businesses because they generate more revenue.
