Royal mail backlog?

A package was shipped out to me on Tuesday 26th April Frirst class recorded on eBay, and still has not arrived yet. Could it be due to a Royal Mail backlog over the holidays? I'm starting to lose hope...

Didn't you claim from Royal Mail?

It would seem they have a massive backlog, lots of mail posted around easter delayed, they appear to have been put to the bottom of the pile and whilst newly posted mail is being delivered on time the older one's are still buried . Not good at all

took 3 weeks to get one item of mine(sent signed for and tracked as still in the system) and 2 weeks to get 2 others..
I asked the postie and he is sooo lovely he went and had a dig and found them!
I would call the local sorting office.

Was that also around Easter? I went to my sorting office and they said that it had not moved from the post office that the seller sent it from (using the tracking number). This was on Friday and they said that I should try again on Monday if no luck.

14 working days (Mon - fri, exc. Holidays) have to pass from the expected delivery date before the package is classed as lost.

I'm in the same situation here aswell, sent a parcel on the 27th april and it's still not arrived which is a little concerning!
#9
But the seller told me that she went to the post office, and they said that it was posted the same day. Then she went to her sorting office, and they said such tracking is impossible. Does it sound as if they were just trying to buy themselves time by telling me a lie then?

Recorded Sign For isn't tracked - silly really... It's just so a signature is required upon delivery and that signature is recorded with Royal Mail and downloadable.

I had an item sent last Tuesday which was recorded first class but no sign of it, I was concerned it had been nicked but from the posts above it looks like it may be delayed. I'm annoyed at the seller for sending it recorded rather than special delivery as the latter is what I paid for due to the item being worth far more than £40 but will have to see if it turns up or not.

I wonder how likely it is to show up this week?

Its not your problem whether the item arrives or not so paying extra for any service really should only be based on if you need it next day or by a specified time. Any losses are the sender's responsibility. I would however expect a refund of the difference or all of the fee paid as you clearly haven't been given the service you paid for.

I agree, I wanted the item promptly and be able to track it. While it's not technically my problem if it goes missing, it's potentially a lot of hassle if I have to wait the 14 working days and the seller isn't co-operative. Fingers crossed it turns up on Monday otherwise I'll be having words with the seller about their choice of shipping method.

The item would have been covered for up either £41 or £46 (depending on when you posted it) plus the postage cost, so you could have claimed from royalmail

The postman actually signed for an item when I wasn't in and didn't leave it, complained but sorting office didn't want to know, covering their own 4rses! RM are sh!te!

Walking your letter to it's destination would be quicker than Royal Mail..........to any postcode in Europe!!!

Our postal service has to be one of the worse - had a package delivered from America in just 3 days, better than 1st class (or pigeon post). Plus RM charges are a joke for the service you get!

Don't know where you got your info but I claim for both item and postage (£46 + postage cost) when making my claims for items sent by 1st / 2nd class that are lost and I always get paid.

Jon i would open a claim on ebay as if your item had been sent as you paid for it should be with you now..its the sellers problem.

I am using myhermes now for all i can..ok so it can take a few days, but i can track it. They havent lost anything yet or delayed it badly and ive had great feedback so well worh looking.

Why open a claim? Do you think it's the sellers fault royalmail haven't managed to clear their backlog after all the bank holidays recently?

The seller has given a tracking number to show the item was posted when they stated, the status on the website will continually show tracking as being received at the senders post office (does not mean that it's is actually still there) and it is progressing through the mail system,

That status wont change until it's been - either delivered or an attempted delivery has been made,

Opening a dispute isn't going to help much, the item will probably turn up shortly

Ohh yes, that other seller. That's a different matter...yes,that seller deserves a claim for not sending special delivery as they were paid to do. At the very least they should have refunded the postage difference immediately and apologised for their error

RD seems to takes ages for some reason, longer than ordinary 1st class, was it posted through your letterbox?
#31
Nope, it was far too big. He just handed it to me and left.

My postman doesn't get me to sign for recorded,he either just hands it to me or if it fits it's just put through the letterbox, but when I've checked on the website it shows as delivered and there is a copy of my signature. He must have a scanned copy of it and just adds the same signature to the tracking details each time

If you check on the website it will maybe show delivered anyhow

Nope, still "progressing through our network"...
