Royal Mail / Buyer Refund Question

Last month, I bought an item from a member on here and paid via PPG.

The item was posted late (1 day after after agreed), but nonetheless. Posted as agreed 1st class recorded, but when it arrived on the 28th May, I was at work.

We then went away on the Sunday evening (30th), so the only real time I had to contact RM about redelivery was today as we only came back Saturday PM

So, on speaking to RM they said they has returned the item to sender as it has been over 7 days since inital delivery - however, if the sender had not addressed the item correctly the first place, (ie: if he had not put an return address on. I've spoke to him and he said he cant remember) then said item gets sent to Belfast as lost property. (why they cant resend to me is beyond me!)

Advice I'm after is, does the seller need to refund me the money I paid him, then contact RM for a refund himself or am i not entitled to anything?

Seller will not be named yet, as he as been very kind and replied to my PMs

If you didnt collect within the time said from the card and wasnt available for delivery then I would say its fair to refund you minus postage costs, after all he did send it you didnt collect.

thats what I was thinking.. i still have the RM tracking number and it says "Your item with reference AGXXXXXXGB is being returned to sender.

This is either because the item wasn’t picked up by the recipient, or because we couldn't deliver it. Sorry for any inconvenience. Please allow for at least two days before tracking the return of your item"

Costs minus postage is fair enough?

if the seller sent it recorded then it will be posted back to them as you have to have your addresson the parcel to send recorded therfore seller should refund minus postage

not naming , there is a person whos posted this in reverse on here twice already :?

he probably did put his return address on it - I can't imagine the Post Office accepting it without one. I've sent stuff with my name & the post code as the return address, but always something.

post office dont make you put return address on it

it up to you whether you want to i personally dont unless its high value item

contact lost property it obviously has your name on it and if you can name contents they will resend it

did with me anyway

1st Class post can take up to 14 days to arrive - regardless of it being posted one day later than you expected you didn't really leave that much time for it to arrive before you went away. If you also specifically asked for/agreed to Recorded Delivery it's hardly the sellers fault if you weren't then in to sign for it - they've done nothing wrong imo.

I'd wait for the seller to get the item back, and then pay him again to re-post it (similar thing happened to me with a Nintendo DS on playtrade a while back, where the the seller wasn't in to sign for the parcel, and it was returned to me - they then paid for me to send it again).

RM have said if the sender has not address it right, it will end up on the lost postage basket in the irish sky (belfast). Its not as thou the item is incorrectly addressed. I wasnt in to sign for it. Why cant they resend it to my home address?
