Royal Mail Complaints!

Can anyone help me...

I've just come home to find a small jiffy bag sticking out of my letterbox... my sister has been in all day as she's ill & said no one had knocked the door & the postman came at about 2.30pm (!) ...she'd picked up the letters etc but not noticed the jiffy bag sticking out outside- it looks like it wasn't even attempted to be pushed through!

Anyway, the jiffy bag had been sealed with brown parcel tape across the top which had been slit open all the way across, nothing was taken (it was just a pet bandage I'd bought for my cats wee leg) but I'm getting really p*ssed off now as my mail (letters & parcels) are getting opened for no good reason before they get to me! Bank/mortgage statements are very private & it's really annoying me!

My husband has phoned the local sorting/head office in the past but they don't do anything at all. Can anyone tell me what steps I can take to stop my privacy being invaded?!

Thanks for any help guys xx

Isn't opening someone else's mail without due cause / permission a criminal offence? Although the hardest possible action, perhaps a visit to the police station?

Do you know who the local postie is?
I chat with mine occasionally, supporting his strike cause etc (to an extent but being friendly nonetheless.

I;d be tempted to compain direct to Post Office management, get a nice letter fobbing you off and give it to:

http://www.psc.gov.uk/

Then just wait.

Nothing of consequence will happen of course, but I can't see what else you can do.

I thought the mail was the property of the Queen once posted until it reached the person named.
I'd email customer services direct or write in a letter, that be better than an email I reckon, and complain saying its happened on several occasions.
Only thing I can think of is its been posted through wrong door and your neighbour as opened it by accident, and realised not theirs and checked the name, and just put it partly through.

Thanks jayhab, I actually tried that before posting here but it just brings up a compensation form :(

I thought it was a criminal offence too but going to the police seems a bit extreme but I am very tempted and it is just getting to me so much now :(

There's an old guy who's nice & talks to me who delivers every now and again but not regularly... It seems to be a different guy each week :(

"We are here to help you. You can speak to one of our customer service advisors on 08457 740 740. Lines are open from 8am - 7.30pm, Monday to Friday, and 8am - 2.30pm on Saturdays"

There's nothing to stop you making a claim - even if nothing is missing from the package, and action will be taken along the route of the package to ensure security is tightened. I wouldn't 'do nothing' as it's only a matter of time until something of value DOES go missing!

Visiting the Police over something that at present is trivial may seem like an over-reaction, however should something happen again in the future, there will be a record already and proof that it's not a one-off.

It's happened too many times for it to be a neighbour, I think :/ & the way the parcel was slit open along the tape... I know when I get a parcel I rip the packaging apart lol.

Thanks for the advice though. I'll probably get a letter sent away to them as I think they bother that much with emails!

Rep left for everyone who's helped xx

Thanks again jayhab, I'll get Mr sadiebabes to give them a call when he gets in from work - I think they take more notice of a man!

And that's very true about going to the police... at least they'd have records etc for if anything worse happens in the future...

The RM service in my area just seems sooo bad! I need to wait atleast a week for any larger parcels & they often get delivered on a Sunday morning (????) Has anyone else had stuff delivered on a Sunday? (I remember posting about it on a photobox thread ages ago)

ive complained in emails several times to Royal Mail.. they are a complete pain in the ar5e! you just get a standard reply and when I tried to go further with it, no reply at all...... complete waste of time.

Our postie is giving the woman down the road a few extra packages if you know what I mean.... anyway, he parks his push bike up and goes in, does whatever he does, then goes back to the depot, leaving the rest of the streets post at her house, sometimes we get it 2 days later.... ive spoken to him and reported him.. do they give a monkeys??.... nope! all a bunch of Nobs if you ask me...
So good luck with your complaint, let me know if you get any joy!
