I was wondering if any of you can help me please.

I purchased an item online recently of some value (£100) from the UK. The item being very small was sent via Royal Mail Recorded Delivery which just requires a signature, but the item never arrived to my house.

The tracking number says it was delivered and I requested the POD.

The name and signature on the POD isn't even close to mine, the household or neighbours.

After a complaint and a mini investigation they say they have delivered it but obviously not to me. No one at my house (me or the family) or the neighbours have got it. Royal Mail do not seem to care that their delivery postman/person has not done their job properly. I got no slip to say it was dropped of at someone else's house or them remembering where they delivered it to in my area. They apparently asked the postie/deliverer but didn't get much out of them. Case closed kind of action!

I have been told I can claim compensation of up to £32 for lost or damaged items by sending a certificate of posting to make a claim. I do not mind doing this but I am left out of pocket for the pathetic shambles at Royal Mail.

What should I do? What can I do? I am possibly just stuck with £32!

Thanks,

Absolutely nothing I'm afraid.

While that parcel is in RM's hands, it's their property. Once they hand it over, it's the property of whoever they hand it to.

Unfortunately for you, not a thing you can do unless you get someone helpful at RM who will help.

Where did you buy it from? Is it not up to the seller to claim compensation etc?

I don't see this as your problem, because of the value, it should have been sent by Special Delivery. Whoever sent it should be the one to make a claim with a P58, Online or by calling 08457 740740.
Anyway, I would also contact the Police, Theft or Mail Fraud is a serious crime.

Who told you that you can make a claim? If it was the R/M are they admitting blame?

Thanks for the above replies.

I am trying to find someone authorative at my local sorting office who covers my area of delivery to help but no luck yet!

I have been told by RM that I am entitled to claim and therefore do not need the seller. They will issue £32 once they get the certificate.

Apparently this is all they can do. I can hardly win back anymore compensation it looks like.

It is down to your seller to make sure you receive what you have paid for. Your seller is at fault, not you.
Who was it?
Did you pay with a Credit Card?
#6
If you paid by credit card, your card issuer will look into this :)

Sadly I did not use my credit card but will for all FUTURE purchases!

I'm having a similar problem, bought 2 games from play.com, as I had my old debit card details in the system play.com rejected my order. I re-entered my details and bought the items again. Play also put the transaction througn on the original order. I noticed this rang play up, "too late it's being picked and packed. When you get the extra 2 games return them and we'll replace them". 2 of the 4 packets turned up on the Monday (ordered friday) still awaiting the other 2 to return. Play won't refund me till 14 days, which they say is this coming saturday when it was despatched. By the time you take the Xmas holidays into account I would of been waiting roundabout 25 days for my 60quid refunded. Which at this time of year I could quite do with.
Royal mail really annoy me, they hiked up the prices but the service has not improved. My postman lost his £10 tip over this. I told him he wasn't best pleased

Not to go off topic to far, but whne is last posting day via Special Delivery.

Is it today or Thursday?

Just been and checked RMs website, special delivery deadline is tomorrow, although, you can get away with posting things on friday, as long as you send it special delivery saturday, which will cost more

I'd have to say that Royal Mail, well my postie has just reset the balance.
I'd received a card today in the post, with barely more than my name, town and city, not my property number, no post code, and yet it's arrived.

Royal Mail, and other companies do get it wrong and do get a beating sometimes, but when summat like this happens, you have to give them credit.

More folks on here get amazing deals, but when you get excellent customer service too, it's only fair to say, well done, and i will contact royal mail to say just that :)

Sorry you may have lost out OP
