You are mistaken - you get the postage refunded if it's not delivered on time - you get compensation if the item is lost.

Rubbish - you can only claim the postage back if it dosent get there before one!

Depends if you opted for consequential damage cover or not as that covers you for up to £10k and more than the cost of the item being sent e.g. legal papers needing to be somewhere in time.

In fact it doesn't even need to be consequential

"When you use Special Delivery™ Next Day you can claim compensation up to £500 or the value of the item, whichever is the lower. If the item is more valuable you can buy additional compensation cover up to £2,500.

You can claim compensation for late delivery in writing within 14 days of posting. Remember to include your proof of purchase receipt."

Correct and then it is the value of the item -- not necessarily £220.

You'll need proof of the item's value, like a receipt.

That;s not what the royal mail website says as I update my earlier post ;)

They are a joke. I sent 2 items special delivery on a Saturday with guarenteed delivery by 1pm on the Monday. Neither arrived until Tuesday.

I emailed them on Wednesday complaining and got an automated response.

I got a real reply on the Friday asking for traking reference number and my full name and address, so i replied with this information.

It then took them until the NEXT Friday to get back to me and the email simply said "We cannot deal with this by email, you need to fill in a form and send it off to us".

By this stage it had been 13 days since i sent my items, and guess what, they only give you 14 days to claim compensation!

Why on earth they asked me for my tracking reference number and name and address when they knew that they could not deal with it by email i will never know.

But wait a minute, by asking me that and then taking a week to reply, it made it very hard for me to get my compensation claim form to them by the 14 day limit.............

If i was a cynical person i would say they deliberately strung me along and took their time getting back to me so they wouldn't have to pay out compensation. But wait i am a cynical person and thats exactly what i am saying!

Its only guarenteed for next day if sent monday to thursday i believe (unless £2 extra is paid on a friday for saturday delivery)

so they were actually sent within their allotted time.

Stuff sent on Saturday is guaranteed Monday - unless it is taken to the Po after the last acceptance time. Then it is Tuesday.
