hi all.

i've recently "dealt" with a fellow forum user via the FS/FT section, after payment had cleared (last friday) i sent the item (last saturday) but the item is yet to arrive.

the item was sent via first class recorded delivery and seems to have vanished. the tracking number is of no use as it cant be tracked online. (whats the xxxxxxxxxxxxxx point then?)

where do i stand on this? how long must i wait before taking this up with royal mail?

im sure this has happened to others before, so please let me know of your experiences.

thank you.

14 days is how long you have to wait before royal mail will do anything but you should be able to claim up to £36 back for the value of the lost item

Taken from royal mail website:
Compensation: Your Recorded Signed For™ item will be automatically covered for up to £36 compensation, in the unlikely event of loss or damage. Cash and jewellery are not covered under this service. For more valuable items (e.g. cash, jewellery, tickets & vouchers), please use Special Delivery™ Next Day or Special Delivery™ 9.00am.

This wont really get you anywhere as there is no guaranteed delivery time with signed for. If you had sent it special delivery then you would be entitled to a refund but not with recorded im afraid

re-edit
you do seem to have a case to get some free stamps at least

Has your mail item arrived five or more working days after it was posted?
If so, your mail is classified as ‘delayed’, and we’ll give you compensation of 12 First Class stamps. If you provide additional evidence of delay and your claim for compensation is accepted, you will be sent a cheque for £5, or for £10 if your item has suffered substantial delay (i.e. was delivered more than eleven working days after the day of posting and you provide additional evidence or proof of delay.

Well i posted a package 2nd class to my mum who lives half an hour away from me for her birthday but it arrived over a month later and i got no compensation or even an explaination at where it had been all that time so i dont fancy your chances but worth a try i guess

I think since he sent in recorded they will know exactly when it was signed for (if it was actually signed for and not thrown in the letterbox) and the original recorded slip will show the posting date. Ring them up and see what they say! Heres a non-geo number: 01752 387112

I wrote a letter and got 12 first class stamps for a 99p book that got lost in the post :-D

Oi Fitzy, edit your original post and take out the swear word man.

Five working days after it was posted will actually be Monday 12 May. It was posted on Saturday 3rd and Saturdays, Sundays and Bank holidays dont count as working days. Seems no compensation for delay due if it arrived today.
