I think that if it is Special delivery you can collect the same day...what does it say on the card??

The card is often left by the normal postman the day after they tried to deliver, not always by the one that tried to deliver. I've often gone down on the day I get the card and it's there.

The 24/48hr thing is to cover themselves.

I had one of these the other day. It said 48 hours on the card. The annoying part was that I was upstairs when they called, by the time I'd got to the bottom of the stairs they'd gone! I texted hubby and he picked up the item at the end of the day without the card - they wanted to see the text from me though!!! Shouldn't be a problem to pick it up the same day, just take ID and leave it a good 2-3 hours for them to get back, the later the better.

I usually collect later the same day from the sorting office. Their is usually a number you can call to see if its ready.

Is there no number on the card u can phone - I would have thought u would be able to ollect it this afternoon, especially if it was sent special delivery!

If the postman posted the item back, and didn't take it back to the office, you won't get it today, and may not get it tomorrow.

had one yesterday said 24 hrs but went over at 4.45 and it was there

Are you sure they are the tickets? Tickets shouldnt really be sent recorded delivery.

Oh I thought they had been sent 'recorded delivery'

There is a chance it'll be there today but they ask for the 48 hours to be left to cover themselves in case the postman doesn't return it until the morning. That way if you go down today and it isn't back for whatever reason you can't really have a go.

I hate that card, numourous times I've received that card and they hadnt even tried knocking the door! cheeky sods think they can just forget waiting outside your door for a minute and just give back to depot where you can collect it yourself I would wager they even get a kick out of it!

The two nearest sorting offices to me are only open 7.30am to about 12.30.

My postman's very good, he;ll always try, because as he says, if he doesn't deliver it he's got to go back to the depot with it, far easier for him to get rid of it straight away :)

If they are not knocking your door, call the sorting office and complain. There is no value in a postman doing this, as a non delivery creates more work.

the cards i get left say pls leave 3 hours before attempting collection from the sorting office,48 hours seems a lot of time

I was putting a pram away in the porch a few months ago as a card dropped through the door, so I opened the door and asked the postman for my parcel, it turned out that he hadnt even brought it, it was still at the sorting office, when I complained the guy at the sorting office told me that loads of the postman now do this, they just leave the parcel at the office and post a card through to tell you to collect it, he said it speeds things up for them and saves them carrying loads of parcels!

If the postman knows he is going straight back to the office, he will allow a few hours, if he is going to post it back to himself, he will allow a longer time period.
