Hi

I have something being delivered this morning by special D but i will not be here to sign for it.
If something is sent special D and no one is around to sign for it, does it go to your local sorting office, coz my partner thinks it gets sent back to the sender. Though i think it goes back to the sorting office to collect later..

It will go back to the sorting office. I think you have 7 days to retrieve it before it gets returned to sender.

If nobody is available to sign for it the Royal Mail should leave a 'while you were out' card (unfortunately they don't always do this though :x) which will give you the details of the sorting office it has been returned to. If you have the tracking reference No. then you should be able to check the progress / whereabouts of your item on the Royal Mail website: http://track.royalmail.com/portal/rm/track?catId=22700601&gear=authentication

You can usually go and pick it up from the sorting office or arrange for it to be delivered two days later or when you will be in

3 days for special delivery

7 days for recorded delivery

28 days for standard delivery

they are the amount of time before they return to sender

Don't think you can actually check until a couple of days after it has been signed for.

Tracking information should be updated by the Royal Mail by the end of each day.

ie: if delivery has been attempted but the item returned to the local sorting office.

You mean the delivery office because you weren't in surely. Would only go back to a sorting office if you lived in a city centre where the delivery office was in the sorting office

Pretty sure it's 21 days for special delivery.

They're the same thing where I live. Either way, my point was I could go and pick it up, it wasn't returned to the sender...

to be honest a sorting office and a delivery office are different.
