Royal Mail Woes - Is there anything I can do?

I send a parcel on the 26th of February 2008 to an ebay customer.
Yesterday I got an email saying they had initiated a paypal charge back due to unauthorized use of their card.
I forwarded all my Special delivery notes and emails from the buyer to paypal.

I checked the SD tracking number and it says

"We have tried to deliver your item from our UNKNOWN Delivery Office before 08:12 on 09/04/08 and we have left a while you were out card."

I called them and the lady said "Yes that information is correct, it was attempted on the 9th of April (!!!) and sent to the central sorting office as it had no return address on or in the package.

Ok. so...
I know 400% that my address was both on the parcel under "Sender" and also on the enclosed invoice.
I am now over £350 in debit in my paypal account.
The item is sitting somewhere god knows where.
and I have to fill out a form and see if they can return it to me.

The item was sensitive and although it sold for around £350 it now has a value of around £150

is there anything I can do? I honestly don't know where to begin
I've informed paypal of all of this, I've informed the post office, I have also contacted the buyer, who has not responded and oddly never complained to me that his item hadn't arrived.....for almost 3 months.

assuming insurance was taken out??Or does special delivery not have some automatic protection???

special delivery is up to £500 and i think you can upgrade it as well

see the thing that worries me is that the parcel will turn up.
I know that sounds daft, but if it turns up they've left me £200 out of pocket.
if it's lost I can prove when it was sent it was worth £350

I'm just annoyed because if it does turn up they've had it almost 3 months and totally screwed me over...£6 for SD well spent.

Why wait so long to sort it out?

What was the item?

The parcel if not delivered, should be back to you...

Has payment been made to you?

Why so long for buyer not to mention before?

why did you wait so long to sort this out?!

because as I said in the original post, The item was sent and the buyer did not contact me to tell me the item had not arrived.
I dug through my SD receipts and I sent out 26 parcels that afternoon. so I hadn't traced it personally.

The reason this even came to light is because the buyer has initiated a charge back, why they didn't get back to me after the sale to tell me it hadn't arrived I don't know.

ok thats cool if you had sent out so many, i hope you get your copensation :0

I can't see why the PO wouldnt compensate you with the full amount. Good job you kept the SD receipt! I would have lost it by now!

I would guess paypal are about as useless as a chocolate teapot???
#12
paypal have basically sent me an automatically generated email telling me there has been a charge back by a customer who says they did not authorise the payment.
the money has been removed from my paypal account and that it is out of their control....useful as ever.
the most annoying part is that I had around £120 in my paypal account to buy something this weekend and now I'm £236 in debt with them *sigh*

third royal mail thread today ....

Make a claim but you will need the buyer to say their end that they nto received item likely,so depends if they co-operate too,if you get a payout or not.
Royal Mail will want proof of price,so eBay listing page, and proof it was originally paid for, like the Paypal transaction pages.
Never know though, cos they can see not signed or collected for, then maybe they may just pay out compensation without writing to buyer.
It should have been returned to you,I've posted off items, and if not collected by the receiptent, usually they come back a few wks later.

This looks to me like the 'receiver' isn't saying he didn't get it - he is saying that he didnt authorise the money to come out of his account ... this smells a bit to me because i think what he has done is received the good and now is trying to get the money back by saying he didn't 'order/agree to buy' the items
#16
that's what I thoubght.
but the lady on the phone for Royal mail says according to her "system" the package is sat at a central sorting depot....3 months after posting...even though both "to" and "sender" addresses were on the package.

They've issues me an "incident number" if they can't locate and get the package back to me they will compensate me.
If they do get it back to me I'm £200 out of pocket because Royal Mail suck :D
