Sorry to be ranting this easrly but im so peed off with high tech crapola that cost me over £150 and was supposed to make my life hassle free

Firstly

Ok i bought the Samsung DVD-1080P7/XEU DVD Player With HDMI 1080p Upscaling from play.com for £49.99 and can i just say it is a piece os she ite

I only used it to play region 1 films and used it once or twice since march when i bought it - it is awful it crashes every time i boot up a disc with some stupid blue screen the picture quality is awful and god its rubbish ...£50!!!!!!!!

If there anyway play.com would take this piece of junk back - i did a region hack on it last month but that shouldnt make a diff as i can always change it back to region 2 only

SECONDLY

As per the other thread - i own a digihome dtr 160 £99.99 and it is also rubbish - crashes freezes - recordings dotn record and ive completely given up on it - i bought it less than 12 months ago have receipt - can i just get a straight refund on it ??
Just a little annoyed as i have some recordings on their i wanna keep

p.s also can anyone recommend a decent upscaler or should i just use my xbox 360 ?
same with a pvr
Will probably just chuck my samsung dvd player unless theres a way to reset the software inside

I have a sony dvp-ns76H. cant fault its upscaling abilities and quality of build, remote etc although not mult-region.

this one could be worth a cheeky offer

I brought this a few months ago. Its £20 plus delivery. Plays all regions, but sometimes it does hang when using a "backup" disc (about 2% of time). Can't really fault it for the price.

Samsung require proprietry software to enable flashing, so you probably screwed the player yourself trying to make it multi-region. I would take the hit on that one.

The player should be repaired under warranty. If it's more than a week or so old they will not refund, they are only required to offer repair. If the repairs fail, then you would be entitled to compensation but the value would be reduced depending on how long you have had it.
If you send it for repair, you can kiss goodbye to the recordings. ( the only way to save them would be to connect the drive to a pc and transfer the files directly )

The PS3 is the best upscaller sub £500.

My DVDs looks awesome, but it is region locked.

why is that?

My PS3 (60gb uk pal) plays anything. Just tried a region 1 disk (rescue me series 1 disk 1) and it plays fine.

I agree it does upscale brilliantly

yet another reason to get a ps3 over a 360 lol

Never tried a region 1 film (only own 2 iirc, Lion King and Aladdin gift sets) - but I am pretty sure all films are region locked.

Are you sure the one you tried isnt region free/0

And I agree, this is one of the (many) reasons I got a PS3, the upscaler is soooo good on my Toshiba 37" :-D

uk ps3 will not play region 1 dvds, its proabaly a region free ntsc dvd without rce, i did read ages ago also that with a future firmware upgrade they reckon the upscaler will be as good as a dedicated £1000 upscaler in the ps3.

Just bought a second hand EP-30 for all the HD-DVDs i have been buying recently. Looks amazing, haven't tied a standard DVD yet but i believe it is region locked.

The ps3 is way too expensive still - sub £200 and id buy one but not for the games just the player etc
