Try Sigma (German) or Polar Heart Rate Monitor watches. In addition to time & memory functions, you want the device to measure average heart rate, time within programmed ranges, calorie consumption, training level as a percentage of maximum heart rate etc. Periodically Lidl or ALDI sell HRM's which are fine & very cheap (<£15). Garmin produce top rate products using satellite technology to measure distance covered, type of terraine, hills etc along with heart rate so runners know how they perform on any given route - these cost between £110 - £130 on Amazon - however many runners swear by these to improve performance.

My uncle has the garmin one - and says it's amazing. You can link it to the computer after your run and it shows you graphs and details of, for example, heartrate throughout the journey and knows when you're going uphill. Basicaly it's so clever I don't understand how it does it all!
