Ryanair to abolish check-in at airports
The no-frills airline has introduced a 3 phase move to 100% online check in.

From March 19 passengers with hold luggage will be allowed to check in online but will be charged a web check-in fee of £5 per person per flight in addition to the £9.50 it costs to check a bag into the hold. Passengers wishing to use airport check-in desks from March 19 will be charged a fee of £10.

From May 1 all passengers will be charged £5 to use its online check-in service, while the charge for registering at the airport will go up from £10 to £20. It plans to scrap its airport check-in desks altogether from October, with all customers checking-in online.

Ryanair recently announced that it intended to charge passengers £1 to use its toilets! One of our customers joked that "there is more leg room in the toilet!" Ryanair quickly changed it's mind about the charge after receiving a lot of negative feedback.

The airline has also adopted a strict policy on hand luggage, charging £30 if it exceeds the maximum size and not allowing duty-free purchases as additional luggage.

Ryanair is just total ****

I don't understand this at all - so eventually we will all have to pay £5 to check in online? In other words they are charging everyone for something that we can't avoid, we have to check in

At the moment if you have an infant travelling with you, you have to check in at the airport but you can claim the check in fee back if the only reason you had to check in was because of the infant (ie no hold luggage). Wonder if they'll change this too?

I wish Air Lingus would come back to Liverpool! Ryan Air are away with the mixer :)

EEERRR NO, I only have hand luggage web check in and do 'play the game' but I will have to pay £5 MORE too. How can that be great :?

From 19th March… “web check-in fee of £5/€5 per person/per flight will apply to passengers travelling with checked baggage”. So now not only will you have to pay for your bags, you will have to pay AGAIN in order to check in.

From 1st May… “The web check-in fee of £5/€5 per person, per flight will apply to all new bookings”. Now EVERYONE will have to pay AGAIN when the check-in. Interesting, as web check-in is FREE for all other airlines. Wonder if this will be advertised when you book… that even once you’ve booked and paid, you will have to pay MORE when you come to check in for the flight.”

That's the problem, they keep changing the rules of the game ..... in their favour.

Another publicity stunt?

A whole fiver more, end of the world stuff right there.

I think it's great that Ryanair are still offering cheap flights. There's no doubt in my mind that every other operator would charge me significantly more for the same flights therefore I'm in no position to moan about a few extra quid.

They are a cheap flight company, but they should just state the price rather than using tricks and schemes to con travellers. Almost every 1p flight to Dublin has cost be around £70. So a lot of extra quids added in there.
When I buy a loaf of bread in Tesco I don't expect to pay to enter the store, pay to carry a basket, pay to use my own bag, pay for receiving a till receipt.

I agree that Ryanair often hide their charges but that's how they make their money.

I haven't had a problem so far, all flights have been on time or early. Not once have they measured or checked my hand luggage. I don't want to sound like their biggest fan but honestly I would fly with them again and as it happens I probably will come summer.

its because people know the rules but don't listen and will continue to take 50kg Suitcases which have to go in the hold. Take a small holdall and your sorted.

Anyone know if this applies to flights which were booked before March 19th. I booked my flight back home (on the 28th of March) a couple of weeks ago. Will I be charged a 5pound check in fee at the airport?

I've been to Dublin on Ryanair loads of times and I've never paid more than a fiver each way. What are you doing wrong?
