Son's DS lite hinge has broke, Do I have to change whole case?

My son's DS lite top screen has been flipping backward easier than before, now a little bit of plastic came off it today.
Do I need to chance the whole casing top and bottom?
Does anyone know if any stores would fix it for me?
If I do have to do it myself, is it really a hard job, or one that just takes patience?

btw he is only 3 which is why I am not forking out mega money for new for him. Would rather spend around £10 getting case or it fixed? Just not sure what my best option is x

To change the hinge you'll have to open the bottom part of the case anyway so you might as well change all the case.

Fairly easy to do, plenty of how to guides on youtube.

You could duct tape it lol.

haha true, But I would be scared he would snap some wires if it gets worse. I did look at super gluing it! Obviously forgetting the obvious that it would never reopen again!

I think the case is best idea then. Now i need to know if Ebay is safe enough to buy from without getting virused up! :)

Is it easier than changing the original DS case - I tried that once on my son's DS and borked it up. My other son has a DS Lite with a broken hinge and I'm too scared to attempt to replace the casing myself and have instead been getting away with using a case cover which itself has a hinge.

My son's had similar thing happen, one side of the hinge had the plastic snap off on the top edge. That must have been about 2 years ago and it is still going fine to this day, with pretty heavy usage.

As your son is only 3 I'd probably like to suggest a case as well, It probably wouldn't be long before he broke another hinge, Very common problem.

The replacement shells on ebay are not as good quality as the originals in my experience, I've replaced some original DS shells and DS lite. DS lite is a lot easier, Can be fiddly, The ribbon ( Cable that connects screens ) may become damaged if the hinge is broke as it may get trapped in the cracked plastic.

Would it be best if I did replace the shell, then bought him a silicone case for new shell to protect it for longer?

Im glad to know they are both the same, I may buy one before the shell see how it holds up, then if it gets worse at least i can keep it for a new shell x
