this is total rubbish if you trans then you will want to be referred to by the gender you have been re asigned to, have they not been through enough to get where they are.

same as when an organisation I worked for decided to ban Christmas because it would offend Muslims, there were only 6 in the whole company and they were very upset at being singled out, and if the thickos who decided this had known anything about Islam they would know the Jesus is one of their profits and they would never be offended about celebrating his birthday

singling ppl out because do gooders think a group may be offended is the best way to isolate them and make ppl dislike them

what's the point in transitioning and then being offended at being referred to as your new gender?

Student union is the student union and not the university thank god, young people are dumb it doesn't make sense to listen to them, trans people are transitioning genders so why not call them just what they want to be. This is why trump became president.

Do what makes you happy but dont expect the world to bend for you let alone give a poop.

Its 4am, Goodnight!

I am a trans-woman and want to be referred to as she ( ignore my old username) but lets not have a load of old cliches and disguised transphobia.
So what if that is what they want to do.
How many of you here are attending Oxford University?
So this will have no effect on you at all.
People love to have a go at the trans community as it seems to be the last excepted minority to be bigoted against.
It might seem trivial but to normalise bashing the trans community just puts us in danger.

So thanks for that when you don't "give a poop".

Have to agree with some comments above, to go through the transitioning process and then be referred to as something other than he/she is much more offensive than being called by the gender you have chosen to transition too. Seems like a huge step backwards to me, being referred to as the gender you have always wanted people to recognise you as is presumably one of the most rewarding parts of transitioning.

But if you refer to them in a specific gender you may hurt their sensibilities (ironic extension of the word sensible ;) )
And always remember it`s easier to prosecute hate crimes from the Web than it is to investigate an assault or a robbery.

You just use what pronouns a person wants you to use, it's common decency. I don't know why a union is telling students how to label other people.
They may have good intentions but deciding what other people find offensive is illogical and verging on offensive itself (unless they've actually had complaints/a request from all transgender students in this case). And even then it's not right to mislabel other students.

I think the point for me is that I find it difficult to understand how anyone that is transgender would want to be a 'ze', hence the apparent stupidness of it all. I can't help but think it's students like this that didn't get around to voting because they were too busy with issues of this nature.

I don't think you understood my point.

This story is just another in a long line to get people angry against the trans community.
It might seem light to you but you don't get death threats in your inbox. ( not on this site)
It is adding fuel to an already well burning fire.

So please think about that before you add your voice to the indignation you are making leading my life more dangerous than it needs to be.

The best thing to do when you see another transgender bashing story is to ignore it and not give it publicity.

Why not get upset about the article that was published last week in a paper on The Isle of wight against the LGBT community?

A piece about what was wrong with the article. http://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/steve-taylor1/the-isle-of-wight-needs-p_b_13578074.html?

The article http://www.iwcp.co.uk/default.aspx
The F-you LGBT community apology http://www.iwcp.co.uk/news/news/charlotte-hofton-column-on-isle-of-wight-pride-a-response-97045.aspx

Oh and if you are going to reply "don't be so sensitive" then you did not understand the point at all.

Oh and one other thing I have tried on the mailonline to post replies to similar articles but every one of mine get rejected when I mention I am trans , so they do not want another side to the argument. I did not break any of their rules.
A lot of the mainstream media need to have a go at the trans community as it is popular.

Is it just me or does everyone else not feel bothered and just wants to accept people for who they are in day to day life?

Not being offensive Mrs(Miss?) A , but I just see people regardless of their sexuality/religion/politics etc until its made an issue(usually by politicians or other groups with their own agendas)

Why did you feel the need to message me privately and claim it is my fault because I am making a fuss?

I apologise to you that the lives of the LGBT community being in danger is mildly annoying to you.

Is this post not more about how silly Oxford Uni Union are being by telling people how others may or may not want to be called? Im going to get on my politeness high horse and say you shouldn't be calling people he or she in their company anyway! Also it's going to sound very German over there if everyone starts referring to each other as 'ze'.

A lot of the mainstream media need to have a go at the trans community as it is popular.

This is not attacking trans people, it is singling out the ridiculous lengths to which the Oxford University Student Union is going in an attempt to be uber politically correct.

this is total rubbish if you trans then you will want to be referred to by the gender you have been re asigned to, have they not been through enough to get where they are.

same as when an organisation I worked for decided to ban Christmas because it would offend Muslims, there were only 6 in the whole company and they were very upset at being singled out, and if the thickos who decided this had known anything about Islam they would know the Jesus is one of their profits and they would never be offended about celebrating his birthday

singling ppl out because do gooders think a group may be offended is the best way to isolate them and make ppl dislike them

The road to hell is paved with good intentions...

Check out Jordan B Peterson's YouTube channel for the reasons not to blindly accept entitlement disguised as progressiveness.

What a rediculous idea. So who was the bright spark that came up with this? oO

Two things.

Firstly, it's intended to be inclusive of non-binary genders where he or she isn't appropriate.

Secondly, it's a student union. Anyone who has been to uni knows that student unions do stuff like this all the time so view it in context. There's nothing to be afraid of. You're not going to have to learn new words when ordering a happy meal and Emmerdale isn't going to start using these terms. Your bubble will remain untouched.

Is "Ze" pronounced with the British or American Z. I don't want to offend anyone by pronouncing it wrong.
