Saab 9-3...... Steering rack on a 2006 model? Sorry it's long....

Right, i have an 06plate Saab 9-3 estate with 53k miles on the clock. I bought it in August 2008 from Brindley Saab. I reported a steering wheel problem before xmas. They "checked" it out. They said there is no problem. It probably stiff due to the cold weather. Ican't believe i accepted this excuse. I was on the way to work the other night and the steering went really bad. I almost had to accidents. So when i finished work of the morning i took it straight to saab. Told them i wanted somebody to look at it there and then. They put in on computer and said they "checked" it again. Come back and said they can't find a problem. I said "Well lets just hope i don't have an accident" and walked out, not happy. Carried on driving it. Phoned hubby said it's def. not right! Hubby phoned them up and said for them to have it for the day and get somebody to drive it. So i took it in 9.30am wednesday morning. The mechanic who was going to be looking at it dropped me off at home in it and he felt and said, "yes it's definitley not right, the IS a problem". Any ways. Phoned them at 3pm on the wednesday to ask whet time i could have it back. They said it's just in the workshop now and the guy on the phone said "yes there is a problem, you weren't making it up". Cheeky sod, that's what he must've thought of me. I told him i know whenm my cars not right. They've kept it in... no courtesy car as they said the warranty may have run out???? On there website it states 12 month guarentee not just a warentee. I reported this problem before xmas to be told they can't find it. They reckon it's the sterring rack. They spoke to their head office. At first they wanted me to pay for it. Then head office said they'll pay 40% as a good will. Well according to their website it should still be under guarentee/warentee? I still have no car which is annoying and i'm back at work tomorrow night. Does anyone know what i should do?
Thanks x

31st march 2006. So i know it ran out of that warentee, but states on their website under used cars that they give 12months guatentee not just a warentee. So surely they should've given me this when i bought it in August? But for the steering rack to go in 3 years????

Yeah you will be covered under that warranty, just stand your ground

You also reported it earlier like you said

Also stated on the actual Saab website too.
Are they just trying it on with me do you think... cos they need to make money and seeing how much they can get away with not paying for.
I can't believe the steering has gone in 3 years. Are they badly built or something lol. I'd have been even more fed up if i'd bought it 3 years ago at 30 grand.

I shall do thanks. I can't believe the cheek. I shall print that off their website today and catch the bus up there to see them and show it them. The credit crunch must be hitting them lol. Thank you anyways x

Poor sod sounds like a major head ache, Hope it gets sorted for you, I suspect they tried to pass you off because your female.

Theirs a definite discrimination with in that business.

Next time take a man with you, Let him sort it, They'll more than likely take more notice of a man.

Of coarse you shouldn't have too but problem would of probably have gone.

As for warranty/guarantee I'd read all the small print etc and point this out to them.

That is a bit poop - take it you don't go off roading in it :whistling: :)

Stick to your guns, I would argue that this isn't normal "wear and tear" - Saab also tend to offer 50% repair contribution to "odd" faults (just scanned a couple of saab message boards, thats generally the most but if pressed they should up it to 50%)

I had a 56 plate 9-3 saloon - not my cup of tea - too comfy!

LOL, like the replies.
Off roading, i do it every weekend heheh!!! Nah, but would love to do it.

I only went for the 9-3 estate to fit the pram in. I had my 2nd daughter august the 11th, bought a pram which didn't fit comfortably in the 3dr golf nor the renault laguna. Wanted an Audi A4 estate but pram wouldn't fot in that neither lol......... so we ended up with the Saab. Looks like a mistake we made tho, it's been in about 3 times for different little things which they have done with no quibble. Prob cos this costs a lot more they want me to pay. Will try and get it done for nothing as they firstly said there was nothing wrong.... me thinks they employ uncapable mechanics hehehe.
Thanks. Will let hubby go then and sort it with them cos i will probably end up throwing a hissy fit like a child haha. I start off calm but then end up raging lol.
Will let you know how i get on later.... well how hubby gets on ;-)

They should've picked up on this the first time i took it to them, so i shall also mention that to them and see if that gets me anywhere.

I have a 306 Hdi at the moment. I has had several steering problems.

Rack is knocking. Sorted out with some fluid.
Had water in the system when I bought (fool Steam cleaned the engine bay)
Power steering pump is faulty but no leaking.
Goes stiff when it feels like it.
Could be the steering sensor.

But on a good day its brilliant.
Its still legal to drive even without a power steering pump i have been told, just isn't as easy to drive.

It's stiff but when going round an island/corner it also sticks so you have to give it a good yank to get it back. I have driven a car withouht power steering so i know how they feel and am sure it's nothing to do with that. Imagine really strong magnets and having to pull them apart.
The bloke is phoning me back after lunch..... i swear i'm going to lose it with him lol, i wished i could start smoking again to calm me lol!!

Also the mechanic who drove me home said it was dangerous and i shouldn't really be driving it, especially with the children in the car. So must've felt bad enough to him too.
I'm psyching myself up for when he calls and what to say lol.
