just tried to return a ps3 i bought from them 5 weeks ago due a fault (I have the receipt)

they refused and said that I need to talk to Sony first so I kindly showed them their own returns policy leaflet which clearly states

"so if your product is faulty simply return it with your proof of purchase within 12 months and we will be happy to give you an exchange or refund"

in the leaflet there are some exceptions none of which include ps3's or electrical goods

they still refused! I'm after a refund (as per their policy) so contacting Sony isn't going to help now is it

advice?

didn't ask to speak to store manager although I'm that frustrated I'm tempted to go back down there right now

they don't have any stock so an exchange isn't possible

Try a different branch of Sainsburys.

Your contract is with Sainsburys. not Sony. Sale and Supply of goods act (LAW) say they have to refund within the first 6 months. After the first 6 months only then can they offer either a replacement or refund on the goods. Its not the consumers responsibility to show the goods as faulty. And so on.

I would contact the store and tell them you will contact Trading Standards and take it from there. They are breaking the law.

And please don't just agree, do something about it. These companies get away with this all the time because misinterpret the law or even worse, are given the wrong information.

Lastly, Sainsburys. may tell you its "Company Policy e.c.t" not to refund after 28 days or some other rubbish - They cannot do that.

Even contact C.A.B and they will help too.

Hope this helps you.

Take it back and if they refuse again just ask for their name for Trading Standards purposes.

thank you very much for the replies

the store manager quickly issued a full refund upon mentioning of the trading standards, it's a real shame it has to come down to that though - they've wasted my time, their own and damaged that store's reputation to an extent

won't be buying from there again that's for sure what a farce

i bought a 400 quid tv, took it back within a month due to back light bleeding no problem at all,

maybe it was easy for me cause it was within the first month... but i thoguth a big chain like sainsburys would have been better than what you experienced
