I got a beef with HMV.

A couple of months back, they were advertising the Hellraiser Puzzle Box Set for £10.99. So I placed my order... and waited... and waited...

Today, I checked the order status, and it still said "Awaiting stock from supplier" two months later.

But when I checked the main site, there it was for £35 "delivery within 3-5 days", so I decided to contact customer services.

I was told that HMV only get in a limited quantity for the SALE, and the rest are sold at normal price.
Thing is, when I placed my order, there was nothing to indicate it was out of stock (I never order anything thats out of stock).

My point is: are they breaking any law here?

Surely they could simply get in ONE dvd and sell it at sale price, but still advertise it even though they only intend to sell one copy at that price.

I think it's outrageous, but I'm sure they are covered by there "subject to availablity" clause.

Anyone have any ideas?

I will be writing to them as well.

A couple of years ago I went to the desk to enquire whether they had an album I was looking for. The enthusisatic sales clerk looked on the computer and told me it was actually in the sale. He went to get the album and when he brought it back told me I would have to pay full price even though it's in the sale as they had sold their allocation of 'sale' copies.

I wasn't impressed.

I've seen that a few times check the trade descriptions act, I'm pretty sure they bend the rules a bit when it comes to sale items.

Although in store (possibly true of phoning up too) if you get a nice sales assistant they'll often let you have the non sale version for the sale price (happened to me with Star Wars Episode 3 a while back).

The guy I spoke to at CS today was having none of it,. and proceeded to tell me FOUR TIMES in various different ways the same thing about the 'limited stock' for sale items.
